The ECML PKDD steering committee is issuing an open call for proposals to organize ECML PKDD in 2026 or in 2027.

ECML PKDD is one of the leading academic conferences on machine learning and knowledge discovery, and one of the few that is exclusively held in Europe. It has nurtured a strong European community, and attracts top contributions from world-leading researchers. It has been organized uninterruptedly since 2001 (when co-location began), with ECML going back to 1986, and PKDD to 1997. Recent physical editions have taken place in Grenoble, Würzburg, Dublin, and Skopje, for instance, with this year's edition set to take place in Vilnius in September.

A proposal should provide (at least) the necessary information to allow the community to assess and compare different proposals according to the criteria listed at https://ecmlpkdd.org/guidelines-for-proposals/.

Candidate organizers are strongly recommended to contact the Proposal Chairs as early as possible at bon...@centai.eu and alb...@albertbifet.com, and to remain in regular contact with the Proposal Chairs for feedback during the preparation of their proposal. The Proposal Chairs are the prime contact for the proposers, and will help candidate organizers create the strongest possible proposal.

Once a proposal is sufficiently mature, it will be discussed by the steering committee (https://ecmlpkdd.org/Main/Committee), which may suggest further improvements or clarifications. This feedback may be incorporated in a final version of the proposal. The goal is to ensure that the final proposal contains all the necessary information to enable the community to make an informed decision.

* The deadline for submitting the final version is Friday 30 August. *

A delegation of each team of candidate organizers is expected to present their proposal at the community meeting of ECML PKDD 2024 in Vilnius. Following that presentation, the final decision among competing proposals for the 2026 edition will be made in a ballot vote among all conference delegates attending the community meeting. At the discretion of the steering committee, a decision on any proposals for the 2027 conference edition may be made in a ballot vote as well, or deferred to a later date, depending on the quality and maturity of the proposals.
