The Atmospheric Circulation group at the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science (IAC), led by Prof. Sebastian Schemm, is a small but growing team of weather and climate enthusiasts. It has its research focus on a range of topics at the interface between weather and climate dynamics and on high-resolution atmospheric modelling. The Atmospheric Circulation Group at ETH Zurich together with the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is searching for a 2-year postdoctoral researcher to work embedded in a team at ETH and SDSC on accelerating the representation of sub-grid scale physics in climate models using machine learning. The researcher will work closely with the SDSC and the Center for Climate Systems Modelling (C2SM) and will be hosted at ETH.
The ideal candidate has experience working with and developing numerical weather forecasts or climate models in a high-performance computing environment and/or good knowledge of machine learning techniques. Further, a Ph.D. in physics, atmospheric or computer sciences, or any other related field is required.
Non-linear CVs are welcome, career breaks are not considered as a disadvantage and part-time work is of course possible. We are looking for an open-minded person who wants to learn and do great science together with an enthusiastic team at ETH, SDSC and C2SM.
Possible starting dates: 1 June or 1 July with some flexibility.
