Dear colleagues,

Please share with potential candidates.

Dalhousie University invites applications for a Donald Hill Family Postdoctoral Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence in Health & Medicine. This is a prestigious named fellowship in the Faculty of Computer Science, under the supervision of Dr. Frank Rudzicz, Dalhousie’s Killam Memorial Chair in AI and Canada CIFAR Chair in AI.

We are looking for an exceptional postdoctoral researcher with a strong track record in machine learning and a compelling independent research agenda at the intersection of AI and medicine. We are particularly interested in applicants whose work includes one or more of the following:

  • trustworthy, explainable, and uncertainty-aware AI for clinical decision support
  • probabilistic and statistical machine learning for health data
  • causal or counterfactual reasoning in medicine
  • sequential decision-making and personalized treatment planning
  • multimodal learning from text, imaging, physiological signals, and genomics
  • foundation models / LLMs in clinical settings

A key feature of this fellowship is flexibility: the co-supervision team will be assembled around the candidate’s own research vision, drawing from collaborators across Computer Science, Engineering, Medicine, Health, and Science.

We welcome applicants who want to build an independent, high-impact program in rigorous machine learning for healthcare, including work on reliability, bias, safety, and deployment in real clinical environments.

Eligibility note: due to the funding terms, this fellowship is open only to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, with priority consideration for applications received by May 20, 2026.
