I keep seeing the following when I boot FreeBSD 15.0:

Starting event5 moused.
Starting event6 moused.
Starting event7 moused.
Starting event8 moused.
Starting event9 moused.
Starting event10 moused.
Starting event11 moused.
Starting event12 moused.

$ ps aux | grep mouse

root 5606 0.0 0.0 14520 2948 - Is 19:49 0:00.00
/usr/sbin/moused -p /dev/input/event11 -t evdev -I
/var/run/moused.event11.pid

root 34257 0.0 0.0 14520 2948 - Is 19:49 0:00.07
/usr/sbin/moused -p /dev/input/event8 -t evdev -I
/var/run/moused.event8.pid

I know that moused is disabled by default in /etc/default/rc.conf and I
don't need it so I would like to prevent it from starting up.

My system is not using ums, but hms:

hms0: <Logitech USB Receiver Mouse> on hidbus3
hms0: 16 buttons and [XYWH] coordinates ID=2

How do I prevent moused from running?

The answer to your question is literally the first hit for the word
“mouse” in the rc.conf(5) manual page.

That was the first thing I tried, but moused is still up and running.

Sorry, it's fixed. I had some devd rule I tested out first, I think it
maybe messed up the result.
