Good morning.

As a habit, every morning I do a pkg update/upgrade (latest).

This morning I got:
Installed packages to be REMOVED:
        falkon: 25.12.1
        kde-baseapps: 25.12.1
        khelpcenter: 25.12.1
        konqueror: 25.12.1
        ktorrent: 25.12.1
        plasma6-discover: 6.5.5
        plasma6-kdeplasma-addons: 6.5.5
        plasma6-kinfocenter: 6.5.5
        plasma6-ksystemstats: 6.5.5
        plasma6-libksysguard: 6.5.5
        plasma6-plasma-browser-integration: 6.5.5
        plasma6-plasma-desktop: 6.5.5
        plasma6-plasma-sdk: 6.5.5
        plasma6-plasma-systemmonitor: 6.5.5
        plasma6-plasma-workspace: 6.5.5
        plasma6-plasma5support: 6.5.5
        plasma6-powerdevil: 6.5.5
        plasma6-systemsettings: 6.5.5
        qt6-webengine: 6.10.1_3
        qt6-webview: 6.10.1

I did some testing:

[/usr/ports]>pkg install -f kde-baseapps
Updating FreeBSD repository catalogue...
FreeBSD repository is up to date.
All repositories are up to date.
pkg: No packages available to install matching 'kde-baseapps' have been found in the repositories

[/usr/ports]>pkg install -f falkon
Updating FreeBSD repository catalogue...
FreeBSD repository is up to date.
All repositories are up to date.
pkg: No packages available to install matching 'falkon' have been found in the repositories

[/usr/ports]>pkg install -f ktorrent
Updating FreeBSD repository catalogue...
FreeBSD repository is up to date.
All repositories are up to date.
pkg: No packages available to install matching 'ktorrent' have been found in the repositories

but they are all in my updated ports tree:

[/usr/ports]>git status
On branch main
Your branch is up to date with 'origin/main'.

nothing to commit, working tree clean

Would anybody know why pkg is deleting those packages, or why there are no pks of them?

Thanks,

This happened to me recently on one of my systems that uses the FreeBSD-15 latest packages.  What happened is one of the QT6 dependencies failed to build on a Poudriere run and so a lot of KDE/Plasma-related packages that depend upon it were skipped.  Because they were skipped, they didn't end up in the package repository that resulted ("package search" failed to find them).  As a result of that, pkg proposed uninstalling large numbers of packages, basically uninstalling the Plasma 6 desktop on that system.

When the pkg system suggests uninstalling dozens, if not hundreds of packages, you probably should think twice about hitting "y" to go ahead. :-)  I should have.  Luckily for me, the next day or so brought another build, which reinstated the Plasma 6 packages, so I could reinstall it.  (Note to self: don't engage in package management before coffee.:)

You can view the status of FreeBSD package build at https://pkg-status.freebsd.org.  The little Poudriere icon will let you view the build status (including failures in the package build logs) for particular build runs.  In my case, the build for "qt6-webengine" timed out, causing the downstream packages depending upon it to be skipped.

Note, these packages were still in the ports tree; they simply failed to build on that run and so didn't make it into the package repository that resulted.

Cheers,

Paul.

Hi, Paul.

Thanks for the quick reply and tips! It is really helpful.

I'll hold the upgrade and keep checking the status until they clear.

Thank you so much!
