Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing ML install problems. I can't get the bootflag
enabled. In other words, I can't upgrade my Canon firmware to the ML
firmware.

I'm on Canon firmware 1.0.9 and I'm able to start the ML firmware
update process. The information on the display tells me that it's
successfully installed and after the LED has gone off I switched the
camera off (and did a battery pull).

But at the moment when I turn on my camera again, it says it's still
on Canon firmware version 1.0.9, not on the ML firmware..

I reinstalled the Canon firmware again, and I did a second attempt to
install ML.. but no good results..Please help me out.

Hi Darryl,

Since you tried to remove the battery, I assume you tried to install
the latest stable release (July 8), right?

Can you try the new ML install procedure? (still experimental):
http://bit.ly/oXXKfB
with this install guide? http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Unified/Install

You will need to get cropmarks and doc folder from the zip archive you
have already downloaded.

This will help me with testing the new procedure before releasing the
next version.

Hi Alex,

Yes, I tried to install the July 8 build. I removed the battery as an
extra precaution, was this a real step?

Anyway, is this new install procedure stable?

Thanks,

No problems so far. I tried it on my 550D more than 50 times.

Okay, I will give it a shot tonight.

Do you have any clue why ML won't install on my 550D? I bought this
camera about 1.5 months ago, pretty new. Could this 'newness' be
causing the problem?

Hi,
This new one has fixed a problem I had with my split screen focus. Earlier i had to press the zoom button to get split screen but now it comes automatically when i change focus.
Really cool

Cheers

I have exactly the same issue with my 600D with 1.0.1 firmware. The ML
frmware just doesn't seem to 'take'.

I cannot load using the new installation method either. I get as far
as updating the Firmware Update Program Loading... screen which I see
for a couple of seconds then the screen goes black while the red light
is pulsing but finally it returns to the Info screen (not the Menu
screen). That's all & the firmware doesn't get updated. I have tried
it with the full package & just with the autoexec.bin &
ml-600d-101.fir. I never reach the stage of the green confirmation
screen.

I have no problems installing & re-installing the Canon firmware. If
it makes any difference it's a Sandisk Extreme 32GB SDHC card.

I installed mine on Friday on a T3i and thought I had the same problem
at first. I was watching an installation video on YouTube and had
glanced away at the moment it happened (it was pretty fast) and the
screen went blank. I took out the battery to be safe and tried again,
watching more closely. It worked. I had just previously upgraded my
firmware to 1.0.1 (and restarted).

I don't remember if it even shows a different firmware ID at that
point, since the next step is to remove the .fir file and use the
autoexec.bin and associated folders after that. I've had a few little
glitches using it, but it does work.

Hope this helps..

I followed the steps in this video verbatim and it worked ok for me.
You may want to watch the video FIRST before doing it. There are some
important caveats he explains while doing it that might mess you up if
they apply to you.
