Would you like a screen layout similar to the one from AJ version?

Does it tidy up the audio meters on top of the bitrate information ?
if so I'd vote yes. although I perfer white for readout less
distracting

Not sure if I understood your question, but you can try and see. You
can turn off bitrate info from Movie menu if you don't like it.

To enlarge the font on the top bar, hold the shutter half-way.

Here's another one with a minor tweak: focal length and aperture are white.

Tip: shutter and ISO are color-colored (it shows "good" values for the
180 degree rule and low noise).

For the others, color acts as a separator between the strings (when
numbers become large, there's no space between them).

Looks great on the 60D! The auto-change picture style when recording is also cool :-)

I like what I see. The zoom box menu item in live view is blacked out,
though you can see what the selection is from the hint on the bottom
of the screen

550D: I also like the color-coding and also thanks for the pic-style
while recording, works great !

Here's another cool trick:

You can access all intermediate ISO values from Canon's UI, just by
turning the wheel!

Works only in LiveView, when ML bottom bar is active. Code is enabled
on 550D and 600D, but it was tested only on the first one. 60D doesn't
need it.

What's wrong with focus peaking? It works well for me (just like in
older builds).

When reporting bugs, please mention your camera. This autoexec works
with 3 cameras.

Hi there,

I'm liking the new features you've added to the 550D. Having a similar layout to the AJ is helpful to my aging braincells. Might have to look into getting peaking to work on the 5D, as that will really rock my boat, any tips or assistance much appreciated.

What am I missing? When I turn the wheel, the only thing that changes
is the shutter speed. Does this require any other button push before
being able to change the ISO?

works great. I at first understood that all I need do is power up and

Trying out the latest on the 600D. Pressing the ISO button and turning
the wheel seems to not be working properly. The ISO goes a random
direction and can't get away from a few steps that it gets stuck on.
Also, pressing the Play button when the ISO menu is up will cause a
freeze up and a battery pull is needed.

Correction, the Play button issue doesn't seem to happen all of the
time and it doesn't completely freeze up the camera, it just blacks
out the screen and disables the shutter from being locked up (Live
View button does nothing when switching to a photo mode and going back
to movie mode does nothing). Pressing the shutter button continues to
take photos.

I think this new bars are great and a lot more clear, i like this modification a lot.

About the issue on 600D:
I have the same problem with the new iSO settings, scrollwhell or left and right key are changing value randomly.
No problem so far with the play button, instead I have the last number on the bottom bar (the blue one) that is always showing -9.1 instead of 0.0 like in the above screenshot, if i'm correct it is AE compensation and when in Av/Tv/P it's set to 0 actually and changing it doesn't change -9.1 in ML.

A new thing i noticed in debug menu are the new shown value for:
Firmware  0
Bootdisk  -1
RAM EXE -1
Update  -1

But I didn't get what they are about so I have no idea if they are correct.

OK, removed the ISO trick from 600D.

Also fixed shutter display for large values (in photo mode), with the
formula from the wiki, but it increased the memory usage somewhat (due
to floating point routines). I'll optimize it if you notice any
stability problems caused by this.

If anyone is good at math: how to compute f(x) = 2^(x/8) with integer
arithmetic?

Also fixed AE_VALUE (hopefully). If it still doesn't work, you will
have to find a property or memory address for it.

Bootflags from the debug menu are OK.

Not sure what you mean by "integer arithmetic" but:
f(x) = 2^(x/8) = 2 << ((x >> 3) - 1)

I too like the new screen layout.

There seems to be a bug with the shutter display in "P" mode: It alway
stays at the same value (probably the one that's been set in "Tv"
mode), but it would be better if it changed according to the current
automatic exposure (like the f-value does.)

AE now is shown correct but i have al the ML graphics flickering a lot now. I never see this before, al ML stuff in LiveView or Video mode are flickering, maybe this is caused by the increased memory usage?
I didn't understand what you did for that shutter display in photo mode I see no difference from the older revisions

checking the source I now understood how shutter speed cHange color and it's working good on 600D.
But i found out that if for follow focus we change F++ FF-- and F+ F- with q and play in the settings menu, on screen we se always

     FF++
F+          F-
     FF--

instead of (or what we set)

    FF--
F-        F+
    FF++

follow focus is still working good with the settings we have in the ML menu, only it's not reflected or updated what we have on screen.

Hey Alex,

Wow what and awesome update I take it back the colours are awesome and
are totally relevant considering 180d rule and native ISOs, just
letting you know the 2011-08-11 15:25:44 build seems to be solid on
the 600d, the newest is flicking hardcore from boot regardless of
settings.

some extra memory (around 30k) by putting fonts in an external file.

Shutter should work OK in Av mode (where I noticed the bug) and maybe
all other auto modes.

> the newest is flicking hardcore from boot

Can you show me a video with the flicker?

> ... F++ FF-- and F+ F- ...
This is a known bug.

Here's the current bleeding edge, with a few experimental things
(developed on 60D, not really tested on 550D):
- 422 preview (hold SET and turn the wheel to the right in play mode)
- live defish preview for samyang 8mm
- slit-scan works on 60d (this also fixed focus peak / magic zoom
intermittent issues)
- kelvin shortcut should work on 600d (not tested)
- auto exposure (shutter & iso) for timelapse (experimental; should go
smoothly from sunlight i.e. ISO 100 1/4000, to moonlight i.e. ISO 6400
30s). I wanted to shoot a timelapse of a cactus flower and bumped into
the limitations of Canon's exposure meter (it only went to ISO 200 at
4 seconds in Av mode on 60D in almost complete darkness).

For developers: after FIO_FindFirst/FindNext you have to call a
function which does some cleanup (close the directory handle maybe).
Otherwise, too many findfirst/findnext calls would result in error
(card can't be accessed). See latest changesets for details.

Reminder (I bumped again into it): you can't do any file I/O from
my_init_task (and this includes INIT_FUNCs). Otherwise, camera won't
shutdown. Fortunately, when this happens, the card LED will remain on.

Good news for 600D!
Flickering is gone,
kelvin  shortcut is working,
422 preview (tested only with canon menu preview set to hold and ML tweak for hold -> Play) is shown after tacking a silent pic until halfshutter is pressed again. Moving scrollwheel or using arrow make the preview disappear and under it there is canon's menu.
holding SET and turn the wheel to the right in play mode don't works on 600D (scrollwhell behavior can be set from Q menu)
Side Note: I've tried to take a screenshot of the preview to see if it works but i get only a white bmp, (that's not an issue but maybe is good to know it)

auto exposure not tested...

Then, either SET doesn't send press and unpress events in Play mode,
or the wheel has different codes than in menu mode. Out of luck :P

> Side Note: I've tried to take a screenshot of the preview to see if it works but i get only a white bmp, (that's not an issue but maybe is good to know it)

422 image is displayed on YUV overlay, so it won't be visible in the
BMP screenshot. But you should find a 422 "companion" file.

This should fix 422 playback issues on 550D (tested) and 600D (in theory).

Another trick: put this in magic.cfg to display shutter speed in degrees:

shutter.display.degrees = 1

422 playback on 600D is ok now, but the preview is a problem with intervallometer or other automatic shot mode.
The problem is that if halfshutter (or better MENU) don't get pressed the 422 preview blocks another shot, tested with intervallometer and stack focus.

Alex,

>> If anyone is good at math: how to compute f(x) = 2^(x/8) with integer

Could you provide more info on what x is?
+) Signed / unsigned
+) Range

What are you trying to do?  FFT?

-- Thoughts --

+) You need to a multiplication with 2^(1/8) .... 2^(2/8) .....up to 2^(7/8)
    Ie 2^0.125,   2^0.250 .... up to 2^0.875

+) And so I'd pre-calculate these 7 numbers x SHIFT
    2^0.125  =  1.0905077.
    ( 2^0.125  ) << SHIFT  =  1.0905077 << SHIFT

+)  2^ ( X + 0.125 ) =  2^X   x    2^0.125   =    2^X   x  (1.0905077 << SHIFT) >> SHIFT

And so you'd end up with single multiply (with one of 7 numbers) a couple of Barrel shifts, and (maybe a logical And).

Make sense / Clear as mud?   :D

For defishing, I use nona from hugin (with a simpler custom-made GUI
with my settings). My GUI is not really polished for public use, but
it should be cross-platform in theory.

For command-line defishing, download the attached pto files, install
hugin, then type:

nona -o defished.jpg recti.pto original.jpg
nona -o defished.jpg panini.pto original.jpg

First one uses rectilinear projection (like a normal wide lens),
second uses Panini projection (it only straightens vertical lines and
it's even wider).

Here's a picture I took with the Samyang (defished with panini):
/home/alex/Dropbox/Public/IMG_1584r.jpg

I usually tweak yaw, pitch and roll before defishing (but not from
command line).

Here's an old wiki page on this subject:

OK, fixed the FF+/- bug and the intervalometer with silent pics.

With low intervals, there is some screen flicker. ML goes to Play mode
to save even more power (I believe this stops the sensor), but the
process of switching modes will wake up the display.

Don't forget to copy the fonts file.

f++ f- is correct now on 600D, and intervallometer with silent pic also,
but 422 preview can't show 422 taken when in video mode fram the PLAY menu (they are shown but not always when taken).
Rack focus still have problems with silent pic on. But also when it is off I can't get it to work properly, I need to make more test to be more precise...

For rack focus on 600D you need to change the speed at the very
beginning; this is because speed 2 is not twice as fast as speed 1,
and also speed 3 is not 3 times as fast as speed 1.

Focus Stack don't changes the focal length it trigger autofocus and so during focusing time it will miss some shots, with silent pic it takes some silent pic and some normal pic.
I have set the focus speed to 2 and before the silent pic preview additions it worked good.

Stack focus is working well on my cameras... maybe you have the lens
focused at the other end?

No I start with it in center, set to 4x1 (also 4x2 or 8x2) pressing play and the camera start to auto-focus instead of taking 4 pics with different focus length, during focusing I see Focus Stack: 1 of 4, 2 of 4, 3... and so on but only one or two pic are captured if autofocus gives focus confirmation, and the pics are not stacked.

If silent pic is active they are taken each time Focus Stack Y of x is updated, but also standar pic after focus confirmation are tacken during the focus stack.

Looks like focus stack is tacking a the number of pic we have set but instead of changing focus it enables autofocus and then continue to repeat this for the number of pic we set.

You need to set AF button to * to prevent the camera for
auto-focusing. I remember documenting this in the manual... let me
check again.

Camera needs to be on AF to be able to move the focus ring. But ML
can't tell it to stop auto-focusing.

Yes that was the problem, sorry i didn't remember it.
But still if silent pic is set to single I need to press halfshutter to go out of the silent pic preview and also normal pic are made,
if silent pic is set to burst I can take the focus stack without the silent pic preview but again normal pic and silent pic made together

Does focus stack make any sense with silent pics? You could just
record a video with rack focus.

I was asking me the the same things, can be added a sort of filter so it will not take any silent pic, even if they are active in ML menu?

Alex

Could be, but silent pic is something you set only when you need it
and then turn it off (because it takes control over the half-shutter
press).

How can you reproduce the stability issues you posted on the wiki? Are
there any particular settings that trigger them? On 550D and 60D I
can't crash ML any more...

Last version is ok (fixed the wiki), maybe the problem was related to the wrong .bmp I was trying to load as cropmarks.

Try focus peaking with this one.

This is good in LiveView and in movie mode at 1920,

at 1280 it's shifted up a bit,
at 640 and when in 3x mode it's  all confused

and also beep is working :-)

Hehe :)

Any good use for the beep? I was just playing with wav functions.

For 3x I need a silent pic taken in that mode. 720p probably needs a
different offset (no idea how much, maybe a screenshot would help).

A quick guess from frame sizes results in an offset of around 65 for
720p... is it correct?

No it's higher now, i've made the screenshot and the silent pic but my card reader seems dead right now, so I need to wait till tomorrow for another one if this don't works anymore...

Here there are the Screenshots, some pic made to show the problem and a silent pic made at 3x. Hope this helps.

Can you send me a silent pic with something easier to recognize?
(better contrast).

Also send me one from 720p too.

Could someone help me... i tried copying .BIN from the first page and
got no AJ layout...then copied .BIN and fonts from this page and still
no AJ layout ... I copied .BIN over the old june think build...
Also strange thing... with these last bin and font files I noticed
that AF sometimes looses itself ...eg tried focusing on something in
dim room and then on something outside that was bright and it
confirmed totally out of focus...almost all bokeh... then changed back
to the .BIN from the beginning from this page and it works okay...
tested just couple of times with both...

cheers
