Item: Dr Pepper Ten
Price: $1.59
Size: 20 ounces
Purchased at: My neighborhood Publix that sells those forsaken
cinnamon brooms.
Rating: 2 out of 10
Pros: No sticky film on your teeth. Nathan Fillion. Pleasant clean
finish. Women in glasses, especially with their hair pulled back. Did
I mention it doesn’t leave a sticky film on your “teeths”? Banana
Republic circa 2006. It is only ten calories.
Cons: No Dr Pepper taste. No sweet taste. No taste. Networks canceling
shows too early thus giving us viewer blue balls. Ad campaign is
moronic. Not one of the ten calories are bold. CINNAMON BROOMS. Men,
Women…either way it’s not good for either.

"I took a sip and was instantly depressed. There was very little taste
of the famous doctor, in fact there was very little taste. I did
appreciate the lack of unpleasant sweet syrup that coats your teeth
some diet sodas have. However, this is canceled out by the fact there
was little flavor.

In fact, it tasted close to plain seltzer which made me pine for that
heavy sweetness. Actually, I wouldn’t care if it tasted like prune
juice (as it is rumored Dr Pepper is made from) as my taste buds
wanted to grasp on to something. It claims there are Ten BOLD tasting
calories but it is no bolder than a grey argyle sweater vest."

Apparently Dr. Pepper 10 is being rolled out nationally as it's just
appeared here in Indianapolis. I picked up a case and tried it and I'm
really surprised how much I like it. It certainly tastes closer to
regular Dr. Pepper than the Diet does. It has far less of that bitter
aftertaste. The people who drink Diet Dr. Pepper on a regular basis
may not like it as much since they've developed a taste for it (much
like many people prefer Diet Coke to Coke Zero even though Zero tastes
closer to regular Coca-Cola.

I've always hated the fact that our choices have been either 150-170
calories for regular soda or 0 for diet. Those calories with the
regular soda can add up pretty quick. I'm really looking forward to
Pepsi Next, which is another hybrid but it has 60 calories per can.
That's a nice balance.

"First off, kudos to the package design folks for not using black as
the primary color. Instead, we're given a label that sits on something
like a gunmetal grey. Still a dark color and not light/fluffy like a
diet drink for women. We're greeted by the standard Dr Pepper logo
which now is accented by an all-caps "TEN", sitting above the tagline
of "10 bold tasting calories." Elsewhere on the 20 oz bottle we
reviewed was the phrase "Same 23 authentic flavors." The standard Dr
Pepper plastic bottle shape and design are also in play here with Ten.

Now, as far as taste, to better judge the flavor, we compared regular
Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper with Real Sugar, Diet Dr Pepper, and Dr Pepper
Ten. The results were rather surprising. In short, we found that Dr
Pepper Ten actually tasted LESS like Dr Pepper than its Diet sibling.
In fact, the flavor was rather bland and lacking the unique subtleties
that you usually associate with the drink.

Both Dr Pepper Ten and Diet Dr Pepper have the negative aftertaste
typically associated with diet beverages, but Ten was far worse. It
was quite overpowering. In contrast, the flavor of Diet Dr Pepper was
far more inline with the taste profile of regular Dr Pepper (and
Pepper with Real Sugar, for that matter). The different use of
sweeteners is probably to blame here, with Diet's use of aspartame
coming closer to the original than Ten's aspartame/Ace-K combo. This
revelation is somewhat interesting given that there's also some HFCS
thrown in for good measure, so you'd think that the taste would be
better."

I must agree with the majority of the comments, and not the writer of
the article. Dr. Pepper Ten is much better than Diet Dr. Pepper, and
VERY close to full sugar Dr. Pepper. I have been making the change to
diet drinks, and actually Pepsi Max had been my favorite so far. This
is now my new favorite. I also think that your sample may have been
exposed to heat. Try it out of the can, after chilling on ice for an
hour. Results may be different!

You know, I only drink dr. pepper. So when I started a diet plan, Dr.
Pepper 10 helped cause i am a huge soda drinker. However I just
recently saw a commerial for it, advertising to men and how is that
even right. I am very disappointed with Dr. pepper as a female fan of
it and have since stopped drinking Dr. Pepper altogether because of
these sexist commerials. Thanks a whole lot Dr. pepper, very
disappointed.

I am a dedicated life long Dr Pepper drinker. I switch between regular
and diet whenever I feel I need to watch calories. I stumbled upon a
20 oz Dr Pepper Ten last night on a business trip as it is not yet
available in my area and wanted to give it a try. Took 2 sips and ran
back into the store to buy a case (or 3) to take home until it arrives
in my city. I will definitely be replacing my switching back and forth
from diet to regular and sticking with Ten consistently now. I am
completely sold on this product!!

In the past I’ve been a huge fan of ddp. It’s all that I drink. Just
last night I picked up a bottle of the DP 10 and the taste was MUCH
better than ddp. Thats strange to men because I’ve been advocating DDP
over DC for the last few years because it had much more flavor. Now DP
comes with this greatness.. I love it! Great job DP, once again you’ve
made another customer happy.

Seriously? High fructose corn syrup and aspartame in one drink? How in
the world can that be considered a healthy choice? False advertising
at it’s finest. Wake up people! You are what you eat and those two
ingredients are BAD for your health.

Dr. Pepper TEN

This is not fashion related, but I am APPALLED by the Dr. Pepper TEN
commercials. “Not for Women” ?? Really? I have only taken a handful of
marketing classes but even I can tell you that alienating half your
customer base is an idiotic idea. I will not be drinking any Dr.
Pepper Co. products until the ad is pulled and a public apology
issued. What a dire mistake.
