Asalaam Alaikum dear Brothers & Sisters,
Please see below some Bay Area Muslim community events for Jumm'ah, Friday March 20th, 2026 & the near future, InshaAllah.
1. Asalaam Alikum, the Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar’i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months, including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal. FCNA has historically used the criteria of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (ECFR), which are that somewhere on the globe, at sunset, the elongation should be at least 8 degrees, and the moon should be at least 5 degrees above the horizon. If these conditions are met, then it is certain that the moon is above the horizon and will be visible somewhere on the globe. Hence the new lunar month will start the next day, otherwise it will start on the day following the next. Ramadan 1447 AH: The Astronomical New Moon will be born before sunset on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. So, the first day of Ramadan is Wednesday, February 18, 2026, inshā’Allāh. Tarāwīḥ prayer will start on Tuesday night. ʿEid al-Fitr 1447 AH: The Astronomical New Moon will be born on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026. On that evening the elongation is more than 8 degrees and the moon is more than 5 degrees above the horizon. Hence the first day of Shawwal (ʿEid al-Fitr) is Friday, March 20, 2026, inshā’Allāh. For ʿEid al-Adha, the Fiqh Council of North America, as usual, will determine the date based on the announcement by the Hajj authorities in Makkah regarding the day of ʿArafah. ʿEid al-Adha will be observed on the day following the day of ʿArafah. We pray Allah blesses the Ummah with peace and prosperity! Fiqh Council of North America.

3. Dear Community Members and Friends, As-Salaamu Alaikum, On Monday, April 13, 2026, we’re returning to Sacramento for Muslim Day at the Capitol—and I would love for you to join us. This isn’t just another date on the calendar. It’s a day to show up, claim our space, and remind elected officials who they serve. Why Attend? Every year, walking the Capitol halls reminds me why advocacy matters. When we show up together—students, parents, professionals, elders—we send a powerful message: Muslims are organized, engaged, and here to demand action. At a time when decisions in Sacramento shape our safety, our rights, and our families' future, showing up isn't optional. It’s vital. Nothing replaces being in the room. Turning Presence Into Power. I’ve seen the difference our presence makes. When we fill the Capitol, lawmakers listen. Bills shift. Narratives change. For many, it’s the moment they realize democracy isn’t a spectator sport. It belongs to those who claim it. Mark Your Calendar. Don’t sit this one out. Mark your calendar now and bring someone with you—a friend, a family member, or your local masjid group. Let them see the strength of our community in action. Stay Connected. Registration details and legislative priorities are coming soon. Remember: we don't just show up to be seen. We show up to change what’s possible. I hope to see you in Sacramento, in sha'Allah. In solidarity, Zahra Billoo, Esq. Executive Director, CAIR-SFBA
