1.   Inna Lilah wainna ilaihi rajeoon. With heavy hearts we announce that Br. Mohammad Turiali Faizi (from the Afghan community) had passed away in San Jose today Tuesday afternoon. We make dua to Allah SWT to forgive him, shower his mercy on him, give his family & friends patience, and grant him Jannat alferdous, Ameen, Ameen, Ameen. The BVMCC community extends their deepest condolences to Br. Mohammad Faizi’s family and pray that Allah SWT grants them strength during this difficult time, Ameen.

Janaza is today Thursday at MCA after the 12:30 pm Dhuhr prayer.

Burial is at the Five Pillars Islamic Cemetery at 2:00 pm.

2.    Asalaam Alikum, Rahima Foundation's February 2026 Food Distribution is scheduled for this weekend, Friday through Sunday (February 13, 14, & 15), we urgently need volunteers for Sunday, February 15^th. 3.   The art exhibit "Honoring the Children of Palestine", and the film "Flying Paper" are being sponsored by the SCC Board President Otto Lee and the Palestinian Heritage Committee. The art exhibit welcomes visitors for the full month of February 2026 and includes symbolic Palestinian themes, including references to a 2011 event in Gaza where more than 15,000 children flew kites on the beach, setting and subsequently breaking the Guinness World Record for the number of kites flown simultaneously with over 12,000 kits, and a list of the first 2780 names of the children lost in Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023. The exhibit is available for viewing Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM throughout the month of February on the First Floor of the County Government Center outside of the Isaac Newton Center Auditorium, 70 W. Hedding St., San José, CA 95110. Co-Sponsors: Palestinian Heritage Committee, Arab American Cultural Center of Silicon Valley, Soul of My Soul Exhibit, and the American Muslim Voice Foundation.

4.    The Nihonmachi Outreach Committee will present its 46^th annual Day of Remembrance on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event commemorates Executive Order 9066 signed by President Franklin Roosevelt which led to the forced removal and incarceration of over 125,000 persons of Japanese descent during World War II.

This year’s theme “Neighbors Not Enemies” refers to the legislation that would repeal the outdated and discriminatory Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The Neighbors Not Enemies Coalition of San Jose Japantown was created in 2025 to support public education on the Alien Enemies Act, advocate for the Neighbors Not Enemies Act, and stand up for our neighbors who are currently being targeted by racist immigration policies and denials of their due process rights. Nihonmachi Outreach Committee and Asian Law Alliance are members of this large coalition. Richard Konda, Executive Director of Asian Law Alliance, is the featured guest speaker. The program will include community speakers, the traditional candlelight ceremony with survivors of the World War II incarceration camps, the candle light procession through historic San Jose Japantown, and ukulele artist Jake Shimada.

5.    Asalaam Alikum, the Fiqh Council of North America recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar’i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months, including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal. FCNA has historically used the criteria of the European Council of Fatwa and Research (ECFR), which are that somewhere on the globe, at sunset, the elongation should be at least 8 degrees, and the moon should be at least 5 degrees above the horizon. If these conditions are met, then it is certain that the moon is above the horizon and will be visible somewhere on the globe. Hence the new lunar month will start the next day, otherwise it will start on the day following the next. Ramadan 1447 AH: The Astronomical New Moon will be born before sunset on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. So, the first day of Ramadan is Wednesday, February 18, 2026, inshā’Allāh. Tarāwīḥ prayer will start on Tuesday night. ʿEid al-Fitr 1447 AH: The Astronomical New Moon will be born on the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026. On that evening the elongation is more than 8 degrees and the moon is more than 5 degrees above the horizon. Hence the first day of Shawwal (ʿEid al-Fitr) is Friday, March 20, 2026, inshā’Allāh. For ʿEid al-Adha, the Fiqh Council of North America, as usual, will determine the date based on the announcement by the Hajj authorities in Makkah regarding the day of ʿArafah. ʿEid al-Adha will be observed on the day following the day of ʿArafah.
