Hey everyone,
A few people have asked about this year and it's high time we sent out an e-mail about our plans.
This year we are tweaking the leadership structure to share some of the responsibility of the team and give some people more of a formal role. We still have captains, who will have final say in the decisions of the team and run practices and tournaments like we have in the past. This year's captains are Chunky, Fox and I.
We are also implementing a leadership committee that will help advise the captains on things like roster decisions, how we can run this better, on the field issues and recruiting. I know many of you are doing this already and we encourage all of our veterans to be active in doing these things too, but hopefully this will make things more inclusive and transparent. Even if you're not on the leadership committee or a captain, we still want to hear what you have to say and for you to help improve the team.
We also had talks about getting a coach since it's difficult to be a player, captain and coach at the same time. We don't necessarily need a coach, but are still open to the possibility. If you have ideas on who might be a good coach (or want to do it yourself!), please let me know.
One of the reasons that I've waited so long in sending out the e-mail is I wanted to first know what sort of field space we have. We still have our Wednesday night 7-9 times at Ebersol, but we also have weekend field space on Saturdays from 4-7 on Magazine Beach. The idea is that we'd have at least one weekend off of ultimate per month, but that we could benefit from additional practice time together. Many people who responded to the poll asked for a weekend practice time, but we can adjust if it becomes too much.
With that said, this is our tryout schedule until Mixed Easterns:
Sat 5/2, 4-7pm, Magazine Beach: Open tryouts. This is also the weekend of regionals, so I expect it to be a smaller tryout
Wed 5/6 7-9pm, Ebersol: Open tryouts
Sat 5/7, 4-7pm, Magazine Beach: Open tryouts
Wed 5/13, 7-9pm, Ebersol: Open tryouts
Sat 5/16, 4-7pm, Magazine: Invite tryouts
Wed 5/20, 7-9pm, Ebersol, Invite tryouts
Sat 5/23 (Memorial Day weekend): off
Wed 5/27, 7-9pm, Ebersol: Invite tryouts
Sat-Sun 5/30-5/31: Mixed Easterns (invite tournament)
So, you might ask, how can you help? We could use help recruiting! We've sent out e-mails to the local college teams and posted to r/ultimate and rsd. Chunky is also coordinating building our social media and online presence, so contact her if you have ideas on how to do that. But if you know someone who might be interested in the team, please ask them to fill out this survey:
. We're using the results to create the tryouts e-mail list and keep people informed of dates and times. If they have conflicts during the tryouts process, ask them to fill it in the comments section and we'll try to be as accommodating as possible.
