Dear Marc,
I have corrected a few type in the job description if you don't mind forwarding this updated version.
Thank you,
Gabriel
Job description
The Robotic and Brain Science Department (RBCS) of the Italian Institute of Technology (www.iit.it) offers a PhD and a Post-Doc position for a project focused on humans skills related to object manipulation, using state-of-the-art and custom-developed systems to record and analyze force interaction. The project aims at better understanding how humans (including children) control simultaneously force and motion when they manipulate objects, what information they are using, and how they learn to do it, etc. The research will be conducted in close relationship with engineers, who are interested in building robots endowed with fine motor skills (iCub) and neuroscientists interested in the neural basis of these skills.
The candidates will have to conduct experiments to analyze the manipulation of objects with children and/or adults. The project will integrate robotic technologies developed at the IIT to measure the motion of the objects and of the hand, as well as the contact and interactions forces. Candidate with a background in related experimental or engineering fields should contact Gabriel Baud-Bovy (gabriel....@iit.it) to apply.
The RBCS Department includes more than 100 researches with backgrounds in Robotics, Experimental Psychology and Neurosciences. The RBCS conducts basic research on human sensorimotor and cognitive skills and aims at endowing robots with human sensorimotor- and cognitive-like skills, developing robot-assisted rehabilitation protocol and platforms and brain-machine interfaces.
The deadline for PhD student position is September 23, 2011 at 12.00 noon (Italian time). On-line application is available on the XXVII Cycle - Doctoral School on Life and Humanoid Technologies web page). Late applications might be considered for graduate students interested in joining the group and who might consider starting a PhD next year. Applications for post-doc position will be consider until the position is filled.
