I have just taken a hosted virtual server and installed Miva (.mv)
Empresa via Telnet but failed to get it to work. I am new to UNIX but I
am learning it as I go. I asked for help from the host as to why I got
a "fatal error www is not the owner of Miva" when I run the diag.mv
file in a browser to test. They eventually answered in brief "The
Resolution to your problem is a simple one. Make the owner of the miva
file the "www" group - The www user handles security for requests from
the web." but didn't advise how to make the change. As I'm new to UNIX
I am unsure and need a pointer. I am still waiting for another response
so its taking for ever. Can anyone help me out here?

I have a script that installs miva vm and merchant on Plesk. This part
of the script might help

chown $user:$group $sitepath/cgi-bin/mivavm

in this case

$user = plesk user name
$group = "psacln"
$sitepath is full path to cgi-bin

I assume you have root access and can exectue the commands using an ssh
client like putty.

Thanks for that Allan and it did give me a pointer although I have not
got Miva to work yet. I guess I will keep trying as I learn UNIX and
eventually I will suceed.

Hi MvJack

Here is the command for changing the rights on a unix box:
chgrp -R www name_of_the_file_or_folder
chow -R www name_of_the_file_or_folder

If you need more help just ask, I have a few dedicated Linux servers and I already installed all kind of Empresa on it...

Thanks Claudiu, I will be working on the server this week end so I will
try then and reply here again is successful, or not, which ever the
case may be. The offer of further help is much welcomed. I have, of
course been reading a tutorial and am beginning to understand some
principles but am timid to try too much yet in case I screw it up. Ok,
thanks again and watch this space. It was chown, was it not? lol @
after the spelling hitch but I did understand before the correction.

Cheers, Jack
