On Tuesday, the Obama administration announced the creation of a
“public advocate” position within the U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement agency (ICE) to hear the concerns of illegal aliens going
through the deportation process.
Obama appointed Andrew Lorenz-Strait, a former attorney with Community
Legal Services of Prince George’s County, Maryland, to the new
position.
In a press release, ICE Director John Morton said: “As our first
Public Advocate, Andrew Lorenzen-Strait will work to expand and
enhance our dialogue with the stakeholder community. We want the
public to know that they have a representative at this agency whose
sole duty is to ensure their voice is heard and their interests are
recognized, and I'm confident Andrew will serve the community well in
this capacity.”
