The Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities, MITS, Madanapalle organized a One-day National Level Technical Symposium “PHOTON-14” on 11 April 2014. 200 papers were selected for presentation among 400 technical papers received for this symposium. Nearly 380 students from various engineering colleges participated and presented their papers.

Prof. S.V.Prabhu, IIT, Mumbai was the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony which was held at 10 A.M. Dr.R.Thulasiram Naidu, Head of the department of Humanities and Convenor of the symposium gave the opening remarks in which he outlined the number of technical papers received for this symposium, number of technical papers selected for presentation and the presentation schedule. The Vice-Principal, Dr.G.Hampamma, and Co-ordinator talked about the department and the significance of PHOTON ’14. Principal as the Chief-coordinator of the symposium briefed out the achievements of the college in the current academic year and asked all the participants to actively participate in the event. Ms.K.Latha presented the brief profile of the chief guest Prof. S.V.Prabhu.  While addressing the gathering, the chief guest emphasized the role of teachers in imparting knowledge and how it is equally important for the students to learn of their own by participating in symposia and other co-curricular activities. After his enlightening speech, the Chief Guest released PHOTON ‘14 Souvenir CD. At the end of the inaugural session Principal felicitated the chief guest. Ms.P.Athar Samina Khan proposed the vote of thanks.

After the inaugural ceremony, the students of various colleges presented their technical papers in seven parallel sessions of English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and PCDS. The valedictory function started at 5:00 P.M. Sri. N.Vijaya Bhaskar Choudary, the Secretary & Correspondent and Chief-Patron of the symposium delivered his valuable speech and advised the students to present original papers and suggested not to indulge in plagiarism. The Jury Members – Dr.G.V.Subba Reddy (Chemistry), Dr.K.V.Thyagarajan (Physics), Dr.N.Suryanarayana Reddy (Mathematics), Dr.Suresh Babu (PCDS) and Dr.P.Padma (English) were felicitated.

The prize money and certificates were distributed to the participants by the jury members. The participants gave positive feedback and said that they were very happy to participate in such a symposium which was organized only for the engineering students in the first year itself. Prof.M.Raja Reddy, Dean – Academics, presented the closing remarks of the event. At the end of the valedictory function, Dr.M.Sudhakar Reddy, Organizing Secretary of the symposium extended the vote of thanks.

We are grateful to our respected Secretary & Correspondent Sir, beloved Principal Sir and the authorities for the support extended to us in conducting this National Level Technical Symposium “PHOTON ‘14” successfully.
