The slave finds Annadin with Ekie. Fleet is perched on his shoulder, devouring some dried apricot that the minstrel has just offered him. Annadin nods to the slave and beckons for Ekie to join him in following the slave. Annadin / John From: tful...@gmail.com
The slave listens and says simply, "Sir, my master ordered me to bring the mute elf. He didn't order me to bring the mute elf and someone else of the elf's choosing. If the god Thor were here, I'd ask him to wait outside. I do as my master orders me, and don't take liberties with the interpretation."

When the slave asks Ekie to wait outside prior to their entering the "study," Annadin stops, looks somewhat annoyed and writes to the slave on his slate. If the slave cannot read, then he passes the slate to Ekie to read the slates aloud to him:

Annadin continues:
"isn't some page to be asked to wait outside. So His Lordship won't receive"
Annadin continues:
"a 200-year-old sorceress the Allfather himself favors w Mist-piercing power?"
Annadin continues:
"I asked Milady along because even the Lawspeaker must send for a reader."
Annadin continues:
"As His Lordship has surely noted, Milady graces my slates with voice I lack."
Annadin continues:
"If Milady isn't to read my slates, who shall? Will His Lordship do so himself?"
ooc: Obviously Annadin doesn't know (or expect) that Merilneth will be present at a discussion of her own emancipation. Unless he hears her voice within, I suppose, but she's probably waiting quietly. I'll have Annadin address Cynewulf's question(s) tomorrow. I don't expect that Ekie's presence or absence will make a difference, but this is an IC concern.

Merilneth looked to Cynewulf who gave her a nod, she quickly read slates for Annadin. Cynewulf responds, "It floated in from the sea. What does that have to do with this?"

Cynewulf considers Annadin's words, "I don't even know where to begin finding another slave captured with Merilneth, she could be anywhere. You might as well walk around at the thing and start asking people randomly. But if you find her and if her master is friends with me, I could at least speak of how I was rewarded for the slaves freedom."
"As for a truce with Custiwald, maybe. It will depend on how many enemies I find and how rich they are. My men need to eat and grow wealthy or they won't long be my men."

Annadin looks mildly surprised and writes:
"Does Your Lordship no longer remember from whom Merilneth purchased?"
Annadin continues:
"Granted, Ullothwen may have changed masters several times since, but"
Annadin continues:
"her original captor would be the logical place to begin asking questions."
> "But if you find her and if her master is friends with me, I could at least speak of how I was rewarded for the slaves freedom."
Annadin bows graciously at this.

Annadin bows and writes:
"I'll report Your Lordship's words to my liegelord via a mage friend."
Annadin continues:
"Would Your Lordship wish make any further comment to the Count?"
Annadin / John
Cynewulf listens to Annadin's logic. "I can declare war on these cultists and go fight them wherever they are with no alliance with Custiwald. If I have to attack into Mithras I'll just land there. Why would I want to have to trust Custiwald with my supply lines? I trust only the sea for such things."
"Wodin's gift pays for a slave and a small fraction of the costs I'd take during a war. It certainly doesn't cover my whole war costs, which means I'll cover them with plunder. If these cultists don't have enough gold it'll have to come from somewhere."

Cynewulf gets descriptions from Annadin and Merilneth about the capture. "Maybe Earl Beowulf Flokison or Earl Cynewulf Ragnarson. They both have sails like that. Both are grandsons of Earl Ragnar the Elder Ragnarson and they fly variants of his sail since both believe they are the rightful lord of Ragnar's lands that are now ruled by Earl Uhtraed Uhtraedson."
"They could probably take the lands back if they would give up their feud or take it to the law speaker, but they prefer to fight it out."
He thinks for a moment, "Don't recall exactly when Merilneth was captured. Earl Ragnar himself may have still been alive. He died old but well several years ago."

Subject: Re: [Mithras][Q2:TheCult] Cynewulf Sends for AnnadinCynewulf looked confused, "Why would I care where I bought a particular slave? I have hundreds of them."
"As for your lord, you can feel free to let him know I accept bribes to stay away from certain territories. BAHAHA" He laughs at his own comment then after a moment gets serious again, "I really do, I take bribes. Women or gold or whatever."

Annadin nods appreciatively for the leads and makes careful note of the four names.

Annadin writes to Earl Cynewulf:
"Merilneth taken 4 1/2 years ago. When Earl Ragnar's death?"
Annadin / John
Annadin raises an eyebrow and writes on his slate:
"I'll submit a complete report. Naturally I don't instruct him."
