Ivar retakes his seat and looks to Runa, "I still find this unnecessary, but you have the right to trial by combat. You may begin, and may the gods show us the truth."

Runa bows slightly and gets a good grip on her dagger. As a few of the guards walk up and drag the male slaves away from the center of the room and sit them on the floor a safe distance away to make sure they don't get involved. They whisper to each other a bit ((PMs incoming for a few of you))

Caela picks up the knife from the floor and smiles, "Yes, let's end this..."

The two women close the distance between them slowly until they are about a hex apart, Caela flips her knife around into a backhand grip and taunts, "I think I'll cut out your heart, leave it in a dark place for the creatures of the shadows to eat."

Runa was more focused, she closed the distance and engaged Caela, but Caela got the first swing, spinning slightly as Runa lunged forward with her blade. Runa got a minor cut on Caela's side while Caela got a good, multi-point damage blow against Runa's weapon arm.

Runa suppressed what would otherwise have probably been a cry with a loud groan and managed to keep her knife in her hand.

Caela continued speaking, "Once your heart is left to the shadow creatures, I'm sure they'll burn your body as is your way, and the fire god will have you forever."

Caela stepped forward again, swinging her knife towards Runa's stomach, Runa stepped back quickly and lunged back in to deliver her own blow and Caela quickly reversed, plunging her knife into Runa's side. Runa let out a cry this time and fell to her knees. Caela laughed as she spun her dagger around to a forward grip. "Good bye, Runa, let me see about getting that heart now..."

As Caela stepped forward there was a sudden clap of Thunder, so loud that it shook the great hall, although no obvious flash of lightning in the clear daytime sky. In that half second of surprise, Runa lunged forward and tackled Caela. With Runa on top, she raised her knife and plunged it down into Caela, sinking the blade in between two of her ribs. Runa then raised and struck again. And again. And again. Screaming in anger as she did so. ((PM to Grim))

If there was a last expression on Caela's face, it was surprise at the repeat blows of the dagger. As she died, the room darkened and long black shadowy tendrils unwound from her body and slowly withdrew into the shadows of the room. A few of the warriors drew weapons and tried to strike the tendrils but to no avail. They slide back into the shadows. and are seemingly gone. ((PM to Sirius))

Runa strikes a few more blows for good measure. Then pushes herself painfully back to her feet, "Kidnapping, attempted murder, and sedition" She says as she starts to stumble. Hogni runs forward and grabs her before she falls and with Ivar's wife Gundrun they walked her off the floor.

The slaves are suddenly very talkative again, they start babbling about how the shadow creatures told them they'd be tortured if they didn't stay silent and have Caela do the talking and so on. Ivar is relatively disinterested in their current babbling. He stands, "Enough of this..." He points at one of the slaves, "Take that one and interrogate him about these shadow creatures, hang the rest of them."

"This trial is complete" He says looking to Hogni who quickly carries Runa off the floor. A small group of women go with them, presumably to do some healing.

Ivar looks to one of his men, "When the Angel of Death is done preparing for funeral rights, I want to see her, bring the foreigners as well." Looking to Ragnar he adds, "I'll speak to you now..." ((PM to Ragnar))

watching things  unfold, the elf gripped and regripped his bow, in his mind going thorugh the steps he would need to take  to send a shaft into Caela, should he need to....Thenthe thunder happens, and Runa attacks to ...'win'. Ekie tensed through the combat, willing for Runa to be the victor. She looked ready to run at Caela just before the lightning sounded. There was a faint chuckle that came from her. Wodin aided as he could.

Seeing the shadows leave Caela and hearing Ivy, she shook her head. "She isn't coming back from this."

Grim tries to get into position for a magical strike when the Darknessss slithers away, but to no avail, too many warriors in the way to risk a blast.

He looks at Annadin's slate and nods in recognition. "All is just and well, all is happening as it should."

Then he walks out, looks up towards the clouds heavy with rain and raises his arms, shouts with a powerful growling voice,
"We thank you for your wisdom to stay our blades Allfather,
we are honored Thundering Thor for your tribute to Runa's courage and your show of support in our cause!
The shadow and the flame will be vanquished!
No hearing man nor woman can deny your will in this!
Praised be the Aesir of Valhalla, praised be the Wodinfolk and praised be the justice in the hall of Jarl Ivar Eberhardsson, delivered by Runa's courage!"

He stands still with his arms in the air and a zelous expression, and if he has timed it right, the rain will come, just as the curious from the hall emerges.
No matter if the rain comes or not he will lower his head solemnly in thanks and head out of town to his den.

Figol raises an eyebrow, witnessing the events of the fight and the demise of Caela. "Better this than her possibly escaping again."

Vesser: "We always assumed Caela's friends helped her escape. We didn't know she carried those friends inside her."

"I always thought it seemed ... unsophisticated ... to worship an apep. But if a god of shadow is actually one of those then it makes more sense."

"But what was it, anyone know? We need a way to find these things inside people."

To Runa, without warmth, "Good comeback."

Darc let out a hiss when the black started seeping out. He was tense with bared fangs ready to fight.
