Cynewulf listens as the slates are read, "If the Sly One wishes to reward me for freeing a slave he can do it in advance or make me a promise himself. Speculation isn't payment though."
The Earl looks to his wife then back to the group, "I'll have my wife do rituals, if the Alfather wants something of me, perhaps he'll pass it along. We'll speak again tomorrow."
Cynewulf stands and takes his wife's hand to lead her away. As they walk he flags down a slave and whispers. Annadin easily over hears an order to send Merilneth to his and his wife's chambers.

Annadin nods at the earl's first question and gives a tilted nod to the second. He writes for Ekie to read aloud:
"I suspect he'd indeed compensate Your Lordship, but I can't be sure."
> "Not being disrespectful to the gods, but if Wodin wishes to give you a gift I'm unclear why I'm supposed to give it to you."
Annadin responds with a slate that reads:
"Whether a Wodinson must always heed the Allfather's will, I don't know."
Annadin continues:
"Quite possibly the Allfather approves of Your Lordship's point of view"
Annadin continues:
"and intends Your Lordship be compensated promptly in this transaction."
Annadin continues:
"If so, I'd hope for prompt opportunity to render you some valuable service."
Annadin continues:
"Or maybe Runa's value to Ebersfjord will bring Ragnar to make you an offer."
Annadin continues:
"On the other hand, it's also possible that the Allfather expects a Wodinson"
Annadin continues:
"to honor the debt of a rescued Wodinsdottir as a sister, regardless of clan."
Annadin continues:
"If so, then Your Lordship's reluctance may displease the Ancient One,"
Annadin continues:
"and any blessing he might have given Your Lordship for freeing my cousin"
Annadin continues:
"would pass instead to that Wodinson who buys Merilneth to free her."

Ragnar nods respectfully at Cynewulf, "Yes, Earl Cynewulf, they know how to use the kits and can read lots of special handwaver squiggles. Thank you very much for your generous proposal. I'll let them know."Looking pleased, Ragnar walks over to Sirius and Figol, "Looks like we have a deal. He has several handwavers' chests but they're incomplete, and the lord earl doesn't have any slaves who can read your handwavers' squiggles to figure out how to make the largest number of kits complete from what's in the others. If you can do that, then the lord earl says you can keep a complete one for yourself in payment. That fat slave with the moneybag - name's Alexander - can take you to where the kits are stored."Ragnar / Eric

We captured a few of those and couldn't sell them at our last stop because the kits were incomplete.. So I have one of my reading slaves whose trying to put them back together. If they help him make as many complete kits as is possible they can keep one. This seems fair since they are very valuable items to me once reassembled."

"Please don't forget Violet, and the chest we are seeking."Good Fortune,Richard / SiriusAs Ekie stands and speaks, the interest level drops. No one seems to particularly care what she has to say. Then she begins speaking firmly in the old Elvish tongue and moving her hands and fingers in the distinctive style of southern magic and with a sudden final incantation creates the illusion of the Dragon Rider for all to see. A few seconds and another spell later and the Man in Black from outside Custiwald appears as well. The mood in the room changes quickly. The mood of uncaring celebration and curiosity changes to confusion and chaos. Almost all the married men have their wives whispering in their ears. Small clusters all around the room are talking amongst themselves, the room sounds just as loud as during the party phase, but with much more serious and disjointed discussions. Asgeirr seems amused at the chaos he caused by demanding proof. After a few moments, Earl Cynewulf stands and bangs his hand on the table in front of him. The room quickly starts to quiet. He looks to Ragnar, "So let us say that, we accept this story that it is by the power of Wodin himself that your elf does magic here. I still do not see how this warrior plaguing the southern lands is a threat to my lands. If he were to come here, we'd fight him like any other enemy. But if he is fighting the southern lands, I don't see how he's any different than us."Ragnar points at the Dragon Rider illusion, "It was this man, himself, who was in the lands of Ebersfjord. He used his dark magic and nearly killed the powerful wizard lord from the south. He walks freely in our lands if he wishes. He has followers from amongst the slaves. Some of them, since killed by my father, attempted to kidnap one of the women of our village. They wanted to rape her and sacrifice her to their evil god."He looks around the room, "I say that makes him a threat to all of us!"This causes a bit more discussion throughout the room. A man calls out, "I say that makes him a threat to Ebersfjord. I've not heard of his mischief here."This stirs a lot of agreement amongst the room. The old law speaker sitting near the party strokes his beard in thought. "But the young Ragnar claims this enemy is a threat to us all." The room gets quiet again as people wait to here what the law speaker has to say to the assembly. He continues, "If it is a threat to us all, then the Thing should be called. All the Earls should hear and a decision must be made."Earl Cynewulf sighs, "I don't agree, I've not yet heard proof of a threat to us all. If Ivar does, why has he not summoned all of us?"The Lawspeaker points to Ekie and the bracelet, "And what is this token of the Alfather if not a message? When has such a token ever been given before? I've not heard of one. When the gods speak, you should listen, Great Earl"Cynewulf's wife whispers something to him as he contemplates the words of the Lawspeaker. He looks to Ragnar, "You claim all this story to be true?"Ragnar stands proudly, "It is as I say."Cynewulf looks to the Lawspeaker, "And you believe the lawspeakers will support this? The Great Thing has not been called for many years."The Lawspeaker waves his hand dismissively, "A threat to us all, thing Thing shall be called. It is law"Cynewulf looks to Ragnar, "Tell Earl Ivar, if he believes this threat to be as real to us as you've said. Then the Lawspeakers say a Thing should be called. If he wishes to summon the Thing, he may give my hold as the place to hold the gathering. I'd insure my allies attend. The Next full moon would be the proposed time. Twenty days from this night."Cynewulf picks up his mead cup and takes a huge swallow, "Now, I think we have drinking and a party to get back to!" This gets cheers from the crowd which had grown a bit somber and quickly the party is back into swing. The Lawspeaker seems deep in thought. Merilneth goes about her work. Asgeirr walks by the group with a smile, "You owe me, Ragnar. Lucky for you, I liked your dragon man's claws."((If anyone wants to do any snooping, partying, etc now is the time. I'm not going to prolong this though since Eric is so busy. Anyone who wants to do any snooping in this town let me know ASAP, if nothing then I'll get everyone back to Ebersfjord and dish out some experience))
