Passing Some Time in the Storm

With the seastorm keeping the party from departing, there is time to get some stuff done in town.

Ekie and Kevlon take advantage of the time to do some healing and make sure everyone is ready for the seemingly inevitable future rounds of combat.

Thariania works on the bow/arrows, but doubts the storm will give her enough time to finish. With some help from Ragnar she gets access to a warehouse full of captured items that haven't been sold or repurposed yet. Taking Calima with the story of needing someone to carry her things, they take some time to test Calima's strength with the available bows and find a Goblin Compound Bow that seems promising. 

Thariania isn't happy with the weapon as it has been damaged, but thinks she can fix it in a day or two, much faster than she can make a new one. With Calima carrying her things back to Ivar's hall, she finds a place to get to work.

Calima goes off with Annadin for a bit and the two can start working on a song of valor for impressing Wodinlords.

Grim spends some time with his rune stones, hoping for some last guidance before leaving on his first real quest instead of his normal prowling, defensive actions.

Figol and Sirius check Violet's book again and find some additional responses:

--We need to consult, will advise further

--We are working on a magical solution for Violet, if we are right about what happened it is an ancient spell that is requiring us to review ancient texts to find a remedy. Until found, do not use magic on Violet to include further healing. Find a physicker and keep her alive with traditional means

--(the next day) We have a team working on a spell, will probably be a week or more and we are not yet sure of how complex the spell will be. Hopefully one of you will be able to cast from this book. You will likely need a wizards kit. Try to find one.

Consulting with Ragnar who consults with Ivar, there are no wizard kits about. He captures them from time to time but normally sells them to the Dwarves who need them for their slave wizards and such. He says vaguely you could probably find one somewhere if you were willing to pay for it, not everyone would have sold all of them yet.

Ivar jokes that if Sirius wants to buy one, he should probably say it's for a woman. Unless he wants to look like a pansie. 

By the second day (39 Winter) it is almost a full moon (probably tomorrow) and the weather has subsided. Alfvine reports to Ragnar it'll probably be safe to leave by afternoon, so he and the small crew are standing by for when Ragnar's group is ready to depart.

Other than Annadin, Calima, Grim, and Thariania who are mostly working all day on the 38th and up to the departure window on the 39th, most of the group has time if they wanted to get anything done (just let me know) or if they just wanted to rest up and practice (The Wodinfolk men are seemingly always practicing and up for sparring, etc) or study that is fine too.

I'm currently transferring all the character sheets to google documents (possibly eventually wiki pages, although that requires more thought on my part), I'm working on a standard template to use and once I have that it should be relatively quick to transfer them over. This will allow everyone to easily view their most current character sheet with just a link from me. I'll have experience out shortly after that, I imagine a few attribute points will be coming out soon, especially for party members still sub 40 attributes.

 IVY:  while the others  go about their Business, Ivy will tend  to his Bow  and  arrows as well. , He will go through practice with  his blade and  keep an eye on the skies from time to time, looking for Dragons.

"Alright.  This is a pickle.  The Tower says that the spell that hit Violet was of a type that might be made worse by magical healing.  What type of healing is going on with the Angel of Death?  If it is magical, we need to extricate her and let her recover under the care of a physicker."

"They advised not using any magic on her.  They are working on a spell that I should be able to cast if I can find a portable wizard's kit.  Ivar believes we can get one, but it would be best if one of our women makes the request.  I also do not have the funds to buy one. Will the party assist in making this purchase?  I am fairly sure we will be reimbursed by the tower if we can save Violet."

She adds, "I think the witch said she'd done all the good she could with magic on Violet. I take that to mean she isn't using magic anymore. We could go ask though."

If nobody seems to be doing that, Vesser scribbles down the words, puts on her waterproof seawoman's gear and trudges through the storm to warn the Angel of Death. "Constantly wet on the inside, no reason to fear wet on the outside, that's what a sailor friend used to say..."

Before Calima goes off with Annadin to work on songs she admires the work Thariania is doing repairing the damaged goblin bow.

“You really do have amazing handiwork, Thariania,” Calima softly offers as she passes by.

“I am very grateful for this new weapon, but I wonder if we can find a quarterstaff in the same place we found the bow.”

 “I’m going to scan the area to find a piece of wood that might be suitable to make one as well.”

Thariania is propped up on her elbows, the bow on the floor as she works carefully on part of the compound bow mechanism, "Getting caught stealing in Wodinlands seems like a bad idea for several reasons. But that's not my idea, I said steal, not get caught stealing. Big difference."

Ekie would offer over her own words to that on the kit. "Stealing should be held off to another time Thariania. But that is nice of you to offer" She was having a bit of the itchy fingers...this was the longest she had gone without stealing! Serious record and a shock for the old gang at home if they ever learned.

 

"If we are lucky to find someone that has a kit, we can convince them that it would be best if we took it off their hands. Coin is always a good motivator. I will give my own money for it as well."

Vesser has no problems (other than being soaked) in reaching the Angel of Death's house. She is able to walk directly down the path to the little cottage.

The Angel of Death and her apprentices are inside studying some magic texts. Violet is resting nearby, she seems no worse than before.

One of the apprentices reads the note quickly while the old woman speaks, "We were using magic the first night to get her stable. It was extraordinarily draining and got little results. We planned to simply let her heal, saving our strength for emergencies that were within our power"

The old woman snaps her fingers and holds out her hand, the apprentice quickly gives her the note to review. After a few seconds she hands it back, "I can't say she is significantly improving, but she does not seem to be getting worse and natural healing is a painfully slow process."

"You are welcome to stay until the storm clears if you wish, we offer little in terms of comfort though."

Ragnar nods at Thariania and addresses Figol, "Yeah, she's right, you won't find a handwavin' kit in Ebersfjord this winter.  Papa would know if there was one 'cause anythin' of value like that would go through his hands first, either cause he took it himself or one of his shipmasters did - and he 'specially would remember somethin' like that 'cause a handwavin' kit's usually only ever useful outside of Wodinland.  So it's not somethin' you'd usually find for sale up here, but there could be one some other earl might've been unable to sell at the end of the last season and now plans to sell down south in the spring.  That's what Papa meant - you might find one somewhere but not in Ebersfjord.  You'd have to just ask around among the earls an' see who might have one."

 

"So the point is - if you want to buy a handwavin' kit up here, you'll need to visit other earls - which is where we were plannin' on goin' anyway before Violet was attacked."

 

Ragnar lets Alfvine know that one of the earliest stops should be Earl Cynewulf's hold (ooc:  say, first, second or third,depending on geography which Ragnar would know but I don't)

Thariania keeps working as Ragnar speaks, "Wodin's gifts may not literally be for the people he assigned them to. He says Annadin has a reward waiting at Cynewulf's hold. Maybe he means mission advancement or maybe he means a wizard's chest. Annadin would likely feel rewarded with either. Or maybe he means Annadin will discover a chest of gold waiting with his name on it. Who knows. But since he told the witch to tell us that Annadin knew where we should go next, I vote there."
