When the party returns to Ebersfjord (less Annadin and Thariania), there is a lot of activity going on.

Just outside the main perimeter of the town, a ship's crew or so worth of warriors are still on patrol, making sure the frost giants don't return. Although Grim gets some angry looks, they let the party pass without any issues as Ragnar, Hogni and Runa are with them.

In the town, the men are carrying bodies of the slain back to the hall where their families both weep and also try to celebrate their likely trip to Valhalla. Some of Ivar's slaves bring them Mead to help.

Around the town, women with healing abilities are seeing to the wounded as are warriors and slaves with first aid or physicker talents. There are the remains of probably dozens of frost giants, although since they are all chopped into small pieces it's hard to get a good count. Slaves are carrying frost giant body parts to a large bonfire that was started to insure they never manage to heal.

Closer to the hall, Ivar is walking by, sees the group and walks by, "Glorious battle" He says as he approaches. He looks to Runa and Hogni, "I heard what happened while I was gone, I'm sorry, Hogni that such a threat against your family happened in my town. I'm glad to see Runa is here and seemingly healthy." Ivar looks to Caela and the other slaves, "Are these slaves the criminals who took your daughter?"

Hogni answers without looking to the slaves, "Aye, lord. They are and Runa will take an oath and speak to their crimes. There was one other that Runa herself killed in revenge, I wish the rest to face death as well."

Ivar nodded at Hogni's account, "I'll hold a court tomorrow then. You and your family may stay in the hall tonight, it will be good rest for Runa, I'll have my slaves attend you."

Walking to Ragnar, Ivar adds, "You've done well, Ragnar Dragonslayer, we cannot have crime in our land anymore than we can have frost giants in our town. We've not had a kidnapping in our town since before the history I know, had we not recovered Runa it would have been a disgrace on our family."

Ivar called a group of warriors over, "Take these prisoners to the hall and keep them under guard." To the party he says, "You seem to be short a few people, hopefully they died gloriously in battle. Is there anything we need to attend to this night, or can your affairs wait until morning?"

Ivar listens to Sirius and says to his warrior, "Keep a double guard on them, and keep that one gagged and bound." He indicates Caela.

"It's better to bring them back, can't have slaves assaulting Wodinfolk and no public justice be seen.

Ragnar nods, "Thank you, Papa.  Just want ta tell you quick.  We slew two more apeps in the mountains' tunnels where we found Runa, Annadin slayin' the apep that was tryin' to crush 'im, an' Vesser an' I skewerin' the second one together in the dark.  We also slew three Joetnar near town just a little bit ago, Vesser knockin' out two while I was knockin' down the biggest one - an' then I chopped 'em all up while berserk."

"Anyway, this looney slave girl here's a Nidhoggkisser - we fought her before in Custiwald when she led a tricksy band of invisible sheep people to try to kill us - for killin' that first apep near Minot, it seems - somehow she knew about that.  Anyway, her name's Caela - she meant to sacrifice Runa to be eaten by those apeps we just slew.  What's buggin' all of us, though, is that this looney should already be dead - she was supposed to be executed in Custiwald after we turned her in to the count, but some of her tricksy Nidhoggkissin' handwavin' friends cast spells on the count's guards - sleep spells, I think - and then made her vanish from her cell.  We gotta make sure that doesn't happen again here, but how do ya stop tricksy cowards like that when they just make you fall asleep by wavin' their hands?"

Ivar called a group of warriors over, "Take these prisoners to the hall and keep them under guard." To the party he says, "You seem to be short a few people, hopefully they died gloriously in battle. Is there anything we need to attend to this night, or can your affairs wait until morning?"

Ragnar:  "The four missin' here still live, but our highest-ranked guest Violet of the Handwavers' Tower only barely so.  Remember that big Nidhoggkissin' lord in black I told you about, the one we met down south ridin' a Big Red Nidhoggling who raised his slain messenger from the dead an' tossed me through the air without even touchin' me?  Well, he was here tonight, within a horn's blow of Ebersfjord! While some of us were chasin' the three Joetnar, he attacked Violet, nearly killed her - apparently could have slain her easily but chose not to.  We took her to the Angel of Death, and there she remains for now."

"Thariania, Annadin an' Darc I expect will return to town in the mornin' - Thariania had some witch-type talkin' to do in the woods, an' they went with her."

"So there's two things you need to know from all this, I guess - that Nidhoggkissin' lord might show up again tonight, with or without his BIg Red Nidhoggling, and even if he doesn't, he may have some other black-wearin' Nidhoggkissers come to free Caela again with more tricksy handwavin'.  Really we were all itchin' to cut her throat, rather than see that happen again."

Ragnar turns to Ekie, Sirius, Figol, Kevlon and Grim, "An' I have a question for those who were there.  Did any of you see or hear the Nidhoggling flyin' in or did the Nidhoggkissin' bastard just appear?  'cause if he just showed up, there may be another gate here near Ebersfjord, just like the one near Custiwald.  We know there's a gate or somethin' like it underneath the tunnels where we met the apeps tonight."

Ivar listens to all of Ragnar's report of the events of the evening, nodding periodically as a group of warriors haul the prisoners away and take them into the hall where they'll be guarded.

"Well, put enough men on guard duty, it'll be hard for a wizard to make them all sleep at least."

Hearing the details about Violet he winces, "A guest injured on my lands, I'll have to hunt down this man and get revenge. As for your friends in the woods, that doesn't seem safe, but I suppose women do what they want when it comes to magic."

Ragnar looks puzzled at Sirius, "Do we really know that?  I sure don't remember this looney sayin' anythin' 'bout a message in the seconds before Annadin knocked her out tonight. Right when we all charged in, she said somethin' 'bout knowin' we'd come - but then Ivy shot her an' Annadin whacked her - an' then Ivy gagged her - so the looney's been gagged ever since, right?  An' Annadin's kept on whackin' her every hour or two, whenever she's come around.  So when did she say anythin' else?"

"Besides that messenger Vesser an' I slew west of Menii, the only other thing I remember about anyone havin' a message was that one that the other Nidhoggkissin' handwavin' woman in black gave you personally."

"Anyway, I agree, the less the looney gets to say tomorrow the better. I'd've cut her throat myself if i hadn't known Papa would be displeased.  He wants public justice."

Sirius replies to Ragnar.  "This is Caela we're talking about.  Do you remember the last time we encountered her?  Back then she was intent upon causing mischief with her lies.  She has not changed, even if she has fallen from grace.  She will deliver a message to Ivar, and it will not be easily un-heard.  She is a wild-card in a game where we need your father's help.  We should have killed her.  After she speaks, it will be harder for us to keep your people from doing what the riders want them to do."

Regarding the 'nidhogg rider message', Sirius is confused by this.  His eyes light up after some thought.  "Oh, you must mean the message warning of the rider's return that was given to the party who traveled to Coran Torvir through Mithras.  As you recall, I traveled by gate to the tower.  Your company was brought to the tower by the Baron Souleymane Aksum.  Apart from the rider knowing my full name and that I am not of this world, I don't think they care much about me.  It is the daemons which seem to seek me out wherever I go.  It is still unclear if the riders sent the greater daemon."

"Of course, my mind is clearly still addled by the spells that were placed on it.  Please keep reminding me if I am forgetting things.  For example, I recently forgot that the dragon rider cast a spell that might have removed Violet's protections, like reverse missile.  The spell he cast was unknown to me, but so were the other protections he was wielding.  Regardless, he has an attack beam that could be an alternate form for wizard's wrath.. or it might be some new weapon.  He clearly has spells that we are unable to counter.  He absorbed Violet's lightning attack."

Sirius appears to remember who he is talking to, and ends the conversation.

Good Fortune,
Richard / Sirius

Ragnar responds to Sirius:  "Well, I'm not really all that worried about her influencin' Papa. The Nidhoggridin' lord is givin' orders to our ancestral foes, the Joetnar and the Nidhoggspawn, an' he just attacked Violet who is Papa's honored guest, which is a huge offense against Papa as a host.  So if we're tellin' Papa the Nidhoggkissin' looney Caela's a stinkin' tricksy liar, I reckon he'll believe us.  An' the Wodinmen will follow him whatever the looney says.  I think the only issue maybe is what the slaves hear an' think, but that's the whole point of havin' a public execution for this murderous kidnappin'."

Ragnar turns to Ivar, "Papa, I'm thinkin' - I know it's important to have the execution be public - but for that, you could gag Caela an' just announce what she's been found guilty of.  But what about the trial?  Do the slaves witness that, too, or just your warriors? 'Cause it might be smart to exclude the slaves from hearin' her lies."

Ragnar looks confused himself, "Um, well, no.  I wasn't thinkin' of the Baron of Oxen at all.  I was talkin' about right after we slew the first big Nidhoggling in Canigli.  On our way back to the coast, didn't that tricksy pair in black outside Custiwald ask you to deliver a message to our leader - an' you delivered it to the Countess Aylia in Minot before you left us?  Or am I mixed up?  Wouldn't be the first time.  But no matter.  We're both talkin' about the looney Caela here anyway."

Sirius seems to recall now.  "Ah!  You mean the pair of toughs we encountered near Custiwald!  Oh no.  Those two simply delivered a threat to someone who might identify as our 'puppet master'.  Since I never really knew who the message was supposed to be delivered to.. what was I to do?  I delivered a private note to the Count of Custiwald with the message and instructions telling him how to best defend himself from the two cultists we encountered."

"So, that message was resolved... as best as I could manage.  I know that in the period following that meeting my own behavior was .. well.. less than orderly.  But I have spent considerable time working with the doctors in the tower; and now I see that my hysteria was being caused by horrible memories of the daemonic plane, and not my own logical mind."

A wodinfolk warrior on guard duty looks down the good foot and a half between him and Ivy. He stares at him blankly for a minute then rolls his head back and lets out a roaring laugh. "The little elf wants to guard our village!"

"BAH HAHAH" The warrior laughs a bit more then points at the hall, "Go to the trial little elf. Don't worry, we'll be fine out here. We'll get a drink later though, I like your spirit."

The warrior walks to one of the other guards and points back to Ivy, "The elf wants to guard the village!" Both warriors laugh as they take up their guard posts outside the hall.
