Late in the day on 39 Winter, the storm begins to clear. Grim comes back from his casting and Thariania finishes fixing up the bow she'd been working on.

The guidance from the tower remains the same to Sirius and Figol. Find a Wizard's Chest as soon as possible and be ready to use it.

Alfvine comes to the great hall and finds Ragnar, "Sir, the weather has calmed enough that the crew has put the dragonship in the water. We can leave now, travel overnight. With the winds as they are now, we could probably be at the Earl Cynewulf's hold by early afternoon tomorrow if that is still where you wish to go."

"If we leave in the morning, we likely won't be there until late in the evening, perhaps too late to get an audience."

Figol grabs Sirius and finds Ragnar. "Look, Vesser was witness to Violet briefly waking. She could only pass a brief bit of information before passing out again. That information seems to confirm the type of magic that was used against her. It also highlights the critical need for us to find/purchase a Kit as quickly as possible."

Figol pauses for a second, then looks up to Ragnar. "Violet is key for us on this mission, due to her strength in magic. The healers with her now have tried everything, and are left with keeping her stable and comfortable.  We are waiting to hear of a spell that will heal her, if we can acquire a Kit."

"Her power is very useful to us and surely a day or two spent getting a Kit and healing Violet is time very well spent, don't you agree?"

Figol hopes his appeal rings true with Ragnar.

Ragnar nods at Alfvine, "Yes, Earl Cynewulf's hold is our first call.  I'll make sure my southern flock is ready and get back to you pronto."

Ragnar looks at Figol oddly, like he's grown a second head:  "Right, exactly.  So get on the boat!"

Assuming that Figol does not do so, Ragnar continues, "Or are you still set on shoppin' for a handwaver's kit here in Ebersfjord after Papa told you that there wasn't any this season?  You seriously think we have handwavers shops up here like yours?  We don't even have your kind of handwavin', so why would we have handwavin' shops?  The only Alandorian kits that ever wind up in Ebersfjord in winter would be those Papa or his captains looted and didn't manage to sell by autumn's end, maybe because they grabbed it late.  But that didn't happen this year, okay?  So the only way we're gonna find a kit is if we ask other earls about their leftover loot - and I aim to start with Earl Cynewulf, clear?"

"But if you insist on stayin' here, Figol, and huntin' for somethin' Papa says ain't here, please be my guest ... actually that's what you are, right? So yeah, be my guest.  ...  We can even make a bet to make it interestin' - we can have a race with a $500 prize, you know?  You can keep as many of our party with you as you want and all of you can scour Ebersfjord and the surroundin' forest and hills for a handwavin' kit while the rest of us sail off and ask a few of the other earls whether they've got one in their leftovers.  Whoever gets back to Violet first with a kit wins the bet.  Happy hunting!"

Ragnar turns to the rest of the company:  "Whoever thinks Papa doesn't know what's here in Ebersfjord should join Figol on his invisible goose chase.  The rest of you, we leave for Earl Cynewulf's this afternoon."

Thariania covers her ears as the two argue, "Boys, boys let's not argue, let's compromise. Ragnar wants to go to a place where there is at least some chance of finding the kit Figol wants. Figol wants to delay that in favor of staying here where there is not a kit."

She ponders, "So let's take the ship somewhere we are certain we won't find what we are looking for. Win win"

As they are in the privacy of their room she motions to Calima, "In the mean time, here Calima, give this a try."

Thariania offers Calima the fixed up goblin compound bow.

Grim wonders, "Do you really need a complete kit? If you know the specific seiding in question, the ingredients might be available, root by root, crystal by crystal and sacrificial animal by sacrificial animal. There is no need to drag around a whole cottage for one single seiding, is there?"

Grim is a little bewildered over the southerners need to be overly prepared for any and all eventualities.

"Clearly we don't need everything in the kit.  But, the kit is more than just supplies.  They are made to channel energies to allow one to cast a spell that has not been committed to memory.  As you might imagine, a memorized spell flows with power like song.  Reading requires pauses which breaks the rhythm.  To compensate, the kit itself is magical.. not the way batteries are.. but more in the way that an echo chamber keeps sound ringing as you speak."  Sirius looks up and seems to remember who he is talking to.  He scoffs and pulls his cloak around him.

"Let's go with Ragnar for the moment."

Giving Ekie a questioning look, Annadin pulls his few belongings together.   Assuming that the group's departure is imminent, he pulls the warm fur cloak around him as they move outside.

Hands firmly clasped together Figol quietly responds, "Handwaving stuff is important to me, of course. Violet is an important figure to those of us from the South, and I intend to make sure she lives long enough to see the Tower again. Eventually. Hopefully."

"As a guest of yours here I clearly don't intend to tell you how to run things. Naturally.  What I was hoping for, maybe it is hope against hope, is that if Kits were sold in the fall might still be owned by someone nearby. Surely it would somewhat beneath your father to keep track of to whom everything is sold, particularly Southern hand waving stuff. I just was curious if all avenues of search have been exhausted.  A double check, if you will."

"As we are in your land, in your house, we will follow your lead, of course. Let us hope our trip is swift and successful, for everyone." Figol is always packed and ready, and moves to where the rest of the party is standing.

Grim lifts his hands and speaks up in a preaching tone, "Listen one and all. The bones falls as they may, but this time they were clear. There is no wizard's box or substitute within two hours walk from here that can be used for casting the spell Violet needs. Further more this is an auspicious day for a sea journey and we should get going as soon as possible. It would be prudent to be close to shore before it gets hairy tomorrow night." He walks on board with his equipment and sits down in the bow of the ship.

Ragnar looks oddly at Thariania, "This really isn't what a Wodinfolk argument looks like at all.  I was just re-explainin' somethin' to Figol that I'd already told him once and then I was proposin' a contest with a prize because he hasn't believed me.  Wodinfolk arguments have a lot more namecallin' and shovin'.  But shovin' Figol wouldn't be any fun anyway, even if I wanted to - which I don't particularly."

"And I don't get your idea at all, Thariania.  Why'd we want to sail somewhere where we can't find a kit?.  Might as well just stay here not findin' one if we aren't gonna visit other earls."

Ragnar responds to Figol:  "Don't know why you think I'm not tryin' to get Violet well, too.  That was the point of havin' a race."

"But anyway, kits sold in the fall are all in Alandoria, most likely sold to the dwarves 'cause their collared handwavin' slaves need 'em for stuff sometimes.  There's totally no market here in Wodinland for your southern handwavin' kits 'cause they normally don't work here at all and nobody who's anybody knows your southern handwavin' anyway.  An odd slave might remember some handwavin' from a past life, but the kit still wouldn't work here anyway even if the slave had money.  So who's gonna buy one up here?  As for what Papa knows, all the men here in Ebersfjord raid with Papa or for one of his captains you saw today, and any loot prize as valuable in the south as a handwavin' kit goes straight to him.  And, believe me, nobody here's gonna hold out on Ivar the Fierce.  That's why he knows there's none here.  And, yeah, it's true that Papa doesn't keep track of every last sword or trinket - but those kits fetch a handsome price in gold when we sell 'em to the dwarves."

" Thank you so very much, Mistress," Calima curtsies and flashes a huge smile as she takes the bow.
It fits into her arm easily and she draws the string back testing its tension. Her expression and stance show she is pleased and eager to test it outside.
When the rain finally stops the next day, Calima will see if she can squeeze in a little secret archery practice before she boards the boat.

Looking about, Calima finds Vesser and returns her bow saying,"I appreciate your gracious gesture. Your bow was very helpful to me."

Thariania smiles, "Glad you like it. It's a pretty obvious war bow though. So, it is technically my property, got it? Maybe I'll gift it to you some day, but not today."

Thariania takes her back pack, the arrows for the compound bow, and the compound bow itself and hands them to Calima. "So, carry my property around so I don't have to."

Thariania stretches her shoulders, "No reason to tire myself out after all. I prefer my walking be refreshing."
