Regarding the history of the FAQ,

I started it as a volunteer effort on a separate platform,

ad supported, but soon got sick of the ads

that monetized the site.

So I moved it to a site that MIT controlled,

but that allowed Power Users like me (and hopefully the other Power Users)

to maintain it.

There are lots of AI2 sites, long dead, and I didn't want

to leave something only maintained by me.

(I have the attention span of a Ping Pong paddle.)

i also come at this from the data and Computer Science side,

and have next to no visual web design skills.

I agree that Google Groups wastes a lot of space on the screen,

and MIT's web sites are vastly better looking than the Google Group.

From what I see, AI2 lives off the kindness of strangers,

so feel free to pitch in any way you can.
