Is there a way to get spoken text without showing the notifier (sample attached) and also without the beep please?

Thanks

Hello Robert

Unfortunately not. It is a rolled-up service via the internet, provided by Google. It is what it is, we can't change change it. You might like to ask Google.........

Hi Chris,

Correct me if I am wrong but I have seen it working without the notifier.

As for the beep, I found out that you need to mute the music volume before calling the recognizer and then the beeps is not heard.

Can the code in that page be sort of transformed (developed) into an App Inventor extension maybe?

If yes, can you or someone else guide me please? I would appreciate that.

Hello Robert

I'm surprised to see that has been achieved, when I checked-out what Android Studio could do, there was no obvious way to suppress the pop-up. In fact the developer has not produced a work-around but, by taking control of the whole process, omitted the pop-up. That was however back in 2014, no guarantee that it will work with the latest version.

So, what would be need for App Inventor is an extension. I don't think there is one, but it is likely that one of the extension developers would take up the challenge. You can search Taifun's list of extensions and make a request to one of the developers. Usually, if the extension is time consuming to write, the community get together to sponsor it.

... I think suppression of the beep should be an option if included in the extension.

Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for the tips and for the link. There are a lot of great extensions.

Your feedback has been very important to me.

I just sent an email to the developer and will post any updates in this thread.

The developer replied saying that, in my case, a new extension has to be implemented and I am working on it.

Thanks for all your help. I just created a new topic in the forum about this.
