Hi Everyone,

I can't find a way to rotate an image which is either picked from gallery or taken as a picture and set as the background of a canvas.
Thanks.

There is no special tool to rotate an image.   You might place the image into an ImageSprite on a Canvas, then rotate the sprite using the Method to do that.

Would the user still be able to draw on the image sprite just like they can do when it is placed as the background image of the canvas?
Thanks again

You could experiment. :)    You would discover that the User can not 'draw' on the image sprite but should be able to draw on the Canvas... I have not tried that.

Try some blocks, take a screen capture and show us all what happens perhaps?       Make a small project showing the technique (place an image in an imagesprite and rotate it)  and post the aia to tips and tricks.

The paint pot tutorial allows Users to draw on the Canas  http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/paintpot-part1.html ...   yes, what does happen when there is also a sprite on the canvas and someone attempts to draw over it?     Is that what you are asking?

Regards,
Steve

Yeah, I tried using an image sprite just like you said I can rotate it but when I draw it does not appear on the image itself but 'under' it on the canvas.
Is there a block that can move layers?I can not find one.

There is no block that can move layers.  Canvas is very simple.  Whatever is on top, is on top.
Thanks for letting us know one can not draw on top of an image sprite.
