My OS is actually Windows 10,
It didn't have an option for Windows 10 ;).

I open the aiStarter and it just sits on the screen for ages (20 mins), nothing happened so I went to the
folder where the Emulator is stored and opened the Emulator directly from the boot file. After opening the MIT app in
the emulator, I click connect but it keeps on saying "Emulator not open".

aistarter.exe runs in the background in Windows, waiting for your browser to be in a project and use the Connect pulldown to request an Emulator.
That starts an emulator .
See this FAQ's Companion and Emulatpr section for a sample Youtube video.
