Have to admit that my backpack is also not its normal self, freezing the screen on click, takes several goes to get it to open, won't take all blocks (say 10 sets).

Switching between projects shows backpack with blocks in it (image) then back pack with no blocks (image) - but there are blocks in there!

Also, screen sizes seem to have "gone large"

Regarding your problem,

maybe try opening a new project and
barfing your BackPack there?

The backpack is loaded when the session opens. When you open/close the backpack, those contents are retrieved locally (there is only a separate network call when you add new blocks to save the backpack). My guess is that this is an issue with rendering a large number of blocks, which also plagues larger projects with the latest blocks editor. We are exploring ways to improve the rendering performance, but you might consider regularly clearing out the backpack if you're accumulating too many blocks. There's also a feature request to add a mechanism to remove specific blocks so you don't have to empty the entire backpack. You can also try a different browser or restarting your browser to free up memory to improve the rendering performance as well.

My backpack was empty and I couldn't open it, it refused to take multiple blocks, and struggled to take one. Opening a new project (as per ABG) didn't make much difference.
Fortunately, I rarely use the backpack, and won't be switching away from Chromium as a browser ;), but felt it important to report issues in case it was commonplace....

Hi Tim,

Which OS are you using? I'll try to see if I can replicate this, but on Chrome 61 on Mac OS X 10.12 I am not seeing performance issues.

Up to date Xubuntu Linux, I've got a W10 box somewhere too so will test out on that, see if it is ME :)

OK, run some quick tests, same account, same project, same PC. Backpack does seems to be behaving itself a bit more now in Chromium.

W10 Chrome, works OK but a little slow - 1/2 to 1 second delay to open
Linux Chrome, works OK but a little slow
Linux firefox, super whizzy, super fast, everything a backpack should be :) - instant open
Linux Chromium, works OK, but slower than Chrome - more than 1 second - 2 second delay

Thanks for the tests, Tim. It's interesting to see that Firefox's performance on the rendering is better than Chrome's. This seems worth reporting back to the Blockly team.

Cheers,
Evan
