I think App Inventor Team need to work on Background services feature as soon as possible. As we see most of the app inventor sensors/features are not fully functional without background-services, Example. Pedometer , NFC Sensors. These day phones are fully loaded with apps.. it is difficult for users to open a specific app and perform actions. Mobile users have move to next level of usability, and need things to run in background, when they want, it should calculate the steps for day/week/months statistics. The old days when people used to open app and like do stuff. Like we have NFC sensor, why do we open the app and use NFC -- it should work even without app is opened.. same for proximity-sensor, Phone call/ SMS etc.. Already we know AI is limited for development, also without getting background services can make AI to be outdated solution for app development learning. I call up on the Management of AI to take pro-active steps to get Background services asap. Working on bug fixes is not so important at this stage. It is most important to work on Background services. Even Mobile Learning / Education platform needs to know about background services without it is incomplete. your mission says below:

The MIT App Inventor project seeks to democratize software development by empowering all people, especially young people, to transition from being consumers of technology to becoming creators of it.

Hello, Ghica

I agree with you totally. We cannot break iron with hands, however it is now almost 6 years since the first request for Background services was requested - see the below link. Almost a Decade. AI Team must be crazzy or lazzy or fizzy, whatever. What is that time ? I see AI team members just put an update on groups ever 6 mounts to keep things moving or motivating people to use this platform. But they never concentrate background services, this is what i have observed. Simply i think AI team cannot implement Background services or do not know how to do it, or they are stuck do not know how to make it work.

Cheers

The developers are working on this for a long time too. There is a site for testing: http://services.appinventor.mit.edu/
But it has been suspiciously quiet for some time now.
Cheers, Ghica

I Agree. They need to do something about it. Eles students may be switching to other platforms. As we can notice the AI Groups is not popular as it used to be 6years ago..
