Hey there Mit team,

I'm wondering if there is any chance of having scrollable arrangements in the future. I have an app the has a list of buttons down one side of the screen with a vertical arrangement on the right. The way it works at the moment is when you select a button on the left it makes a vertical arrangement visable on the right, the screen is set to scrollable but as you know when the user scrolls to see further down the screen the buttons dissappear off the screen too. In an idea world id like the buttons to stay where they are and the arrangement to scroll by itself instead of the whole screen.

Thanks

Jon

Have you tried nesting vertical arrangements inside a horizontal arrangement yet?
That might give independent left/right scrolling.
(Just guessing.)

How about a ListView on the left instead of buttons?
(Just throwing ideas against the wall to see if any stick.)

I agree, it would be nice to have this feature...
star issue 2150 https://code.google.com/p/app-inventor-for-android/issues/detail?id=2150

to star an issue means, to click onto the star in the upper left corner of the issue to vote for it and to get an email in case there are news

Thanks taifun, I have added my vote but I noticed this has been open since June 2012! It's about time this problem was addressed.

Dear Jon...

Well, then, feel free to address it yourself.  App Inventor is an Open Source project.

The source code for App Inventor is located at: http://appinventor.mit.edu/appinventor-sources/.  Go over and take a look.

Then, once you've gotten yourself set up, start pumping out Java fixes for the things you don't like or want done, and we can add them, if they're correct, to AI itself.

Good luck.. Can't wait to see what you can produce!

In the link above it looks like Gareth and Mark made the scrollable arrangement working.
But these posts are one year old. Don't know if Gareth doesn't want to share his work or if MIT isn't interested in adding it or if it is not working at all.

Gareth's Mad Robots is a separate implementation of AI2... with many enhancements.  http://madrobots.wix.com/themadrobot#!mad-robots-ai/c99d

FYI - Testers needed - ABG
I have just updated ai2-test.appinventor.mit.edu to have code which should be in our next release, currently scheduled for mid-week this coming week.

This *is* a Component release, but the old Companion will mostly work (all but the new Scrollable arrangements will work with the old Companion). For testing ai2-test will ask to auto-update your Companion to the test version (2.37t2).

Release notes can be found here.
