problems with connecting appinventor and companium through a proxy server.

Hi,

I'm the IT Technician of a International school in Stockholm and recently we have started to use appinventor on student laptops together with the Companium on a Android Tablet.

Everything works fine as long am not activate on both devices the proxy address (proxy.pac) on our network. The proxy server we are using is called 'SmootWall'.

I have already 'Whitelisted' all possible web addresses like; appinventor.mit.edu, rendezvous.appinventor.mit.edu, mit.edu, qyv.me and also bypassed the ports 8001, 8004, 9987 in the web proxy settings.

If I use Wireshark to monitor my traffic on the laptop then I can see that the appinventor application trying to contact my proxyserver (192.168.10.44:800), so am sure that the proxy server is the culprit.

Another piece of info is that on both devices I can reach rendezvous.appinventor.mit.edu and if I do the test with: rendezvous.appinventor.mit.edu/rendezvous/test then it says TEST OKAY on both devices.

Any help with this issue is much appreciated.

Will your proxy server allow for connections back into the network? The phone and web browser exchange IP address information via the rendezvous server and then the web browser talks directly to the phone. However, in this situation with the proxy server the browser's requests to the phone are likely being routed via the proxy server instead. If the proxy is not be configured to allow traffic back into the 192.168.10.0/24 subnet, these requests will just time out.
