You can not get a list of files using AI2 without a 3rd party File app.

If you can code using Java, you might be able to use  App Inventor Extention Components when they are released.  These tools are described here    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/mitappinventortest/Ip2AX036d0U    .    Potentially, you could write a control in the very near future and use it in your AI2 app to view and use the contents of folders/directories.

Steve

Thank Mit they are still investing so much in ai2. so will we be able to create controls for ai2? that would kill all limitations... but there must be a way... if i was the only one using the app could use php, but again requires 3rd party apps (server)
isn't there any scripting language i can integrate in ai2 to make a list in a text file?

yes, you have to install that app
as SteveJG already said, without 3rd party app it is unfortunately not possible currently

Hum... I guess ill just have to save the filenames in a csv sheet or something....
Taifun, not asking for a lot more (well, you'r always arround the forum, so I guess is just another request...)
What is the best way to make a file dabatase? (db in a text file...) use CSV lists or just copy lists of lists in AI2 to a text file? OR?

Thanks for your time, you guys been great.

for only a few filenames you can store them directly in a list in App Inventor
more some more filenames create a txt file and import it using the file component and convert it into a list

So.... I can save lists directly to a file, creating something like a table with lists of lists?

To store a list in a file, first convert the list into csv format
