Is there anyway to live test over usb with a chromebook? Our wifi is not set up to live test over.

AFAIK - No.

Now Google have shutdown Arcwelder, there appears to be no option other than wifi.

Perhaps MIT should have a look at this, given many educators (especially in the USA) are using chromebooks in the classroom ?

You have devices so you need to have your IT people unblock Port 8001  and use WIFI if the policy is not against ALL WIFI.

The latest advice on using an emulator with a Chromebook is here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/mitappinventortest/chromebook$20emulator%7Csort:date/mitappinventortest/LSq6SL7V5y8/fuvueuwWAgAJ  It indicates there is no emulator option for Chromebooks but MIT is investigating but has no solution yet.

Short of bringing a few PC or mac laptops into your class for students to share , the way to develop may be to develop without a connection; produce an apk and then test on the device.  This is a little awkward but does work.  Use the Designer, design; use the Blocks, then compile.  You don't have to Connect>USB   or Connect>AI Companion if you develop in the blind.
Not a great solution but a possibility.   You won't be able to use a QR code (it uses wifi) but the apk could be downloaded to the device and emailed and installed.

Steve

Unfortunately, the only route we had to an emulator on Chromebooks was using ARC Welder. We will look into alternative options but the locked down nature of Chrome OS makes delivering a solution more complicated than other operating systems.
