I had to connect the emulator of the appinventor. Everything was right. However, after upgrading the emulator, I get the same error as the photo when running the companion. I tried reinstalling aistart and deleted the data folder. However, it still does not solve. I use window10 64 bit. What should I do?

Hello edisondl//

Sorry you have hit this issue, MIT are already working on a fix.

When that error window is displayed, click on "Force Close" and the process will re-start. This time, the update should be successful.

Let us know how you get on.

This version of CompanionUpgradeHelper gets a 'D'

@Chris  "When that error window is displayed, click on "Force Close" and the process will re-start. " ... Yes this what happens ... and happens ... and happens
The update is not successful on Win10 , 8Gb RAM  Force close restarts the cycle ... again and again.

Regards,
Steve

I see - but there must be thousands of AI Users with Win10 64 bit - yet very few reports? I have only tested it on Win7 64 bit (8gb RAM), but the two OS are strongly related........ It is important to ensure there are no possible interruptions during the process. That could be an Anti-Virus app on Windows and many other websites/browsers using the internet connection at the same time as AI.

Hi,
I am having the same problem. The CompanionUpgradeHelper stops and will not continue.I am using a windows 7 64 bit machine. Am I correct this is not an administrator privileges problem? I have tried to close all browser windows, reinstalled the software etc. I have a class on Monday and can't see how I can run it as the students may not have phones. When will the fix be ready?

Hello liveswimmer

Very sorry to hear that you have hit this issue as well. I did not expect Win7 64 bit Users to have the problem since I am using that OS myself. As with all software on Windows, only an Admin can install it. However, I think you have already done what can be done to get the emulator to work. The App Inventor update is not far away from release but it is not ready as yet.

So, what to do. You could use a 3rd party emulator which runs on Windows just like the AI one does. BlueStacks is popular and free:

BlueStacks Emulator Install

2) Install BlueStacks on Windows. Note: Like App Inventor, Bluestacks requires the User's Google Account.

Testing an App Inventor App on BlueStacks

1) In App Inventor, select Build, App (save .apk to my computer)
2) Run BlueStacks, click "My Apps"
3) Drag and Drop your App Inventor App .apk onto BlueStacks - it will self install

Note that BlueStacks is often used to play multi-player games so you might need to keep half an eye on your students :)

...also, your "Exit App" button does work in BlueStacks.

We have a fix for the CompanionUpgradeHelper and we are planning a release tonight. After the release, you will need to first Hard Reset the emulator and then follow the upgrade process.

I am happy to test the new release soon - please tell where it can be downloaded.

Currently I am applying the following trick:

After clicking "Done" in the emulator start the aicompanion anew manually. At least after the second run of aicompanion the upgrade helper is willing to finish successfully. Then you can click "Got it" in the popup window and start the emulator again. In this case no reset is necessary.
