hi there,

i purchased the above book a few weeks ago (£10:00 or $15:00)
only got a computer last week
i now find the book that i have purchased may be useless and cannot be returned to shop

the book is for the beta or version 1 of the app inventor mit edu weblink
but when i logged in last night you are directed to ai2... and my book has instrsuctions for previous version
i noticed the software retired so my book is now useless
i cannot sell it on as the software does not exist anymore
is there no link to old software do i need to buy a new book to proceed

Brian

Sorry that happened to you.
There is an online course and online book at appinventor.org.
Happy Inventing!

Your problem is you have a book that 'teaches' App Inventor (Classic) and developers can now only use App Inventor 2.

Converting AI instructions to AI2 is possible.  Most of the coding in both versions of AI is similar.   All is not lost because the logic used in your obsolete book is identical or nearly identical to the logic used in AI2.

The following will help you 'convert' the books advice:

AI to AI2 conversion

To convert AI Classic blocks to App Inventor 2 blocks, the advice in this link might help...it outlines some of the differences between AI Classic and AI2: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/app-inventor-developers-library/Classic$20/app-inventor-developers-library/BFtMa0BpJq8/tY_9ZCXbtH8J

The conversion is awkward and is difficult because one needs to know the commands in both AI and AI2.   Awkward but you can still make use of your investment.  Follow the advice by the other posters..there are plenty of tutorial that are similar to what is in that book made especially for AI2 on the Web.

Regards,
Steve

If you bought it online, be sure to warn others in your review.
