Hello,

I have a project buit in MIT App inventor beta (old version ) and I would like to use this project in MIT App Inventor AI2 ( new version).

Is it possible to import / save this project to there?? If yes, how can I do this?

Can you help me??

Thanks
Walfrido.

At this time it is not possible to convert (import) an AI Classic project into AI2 other than doing so manually.  A university student is working on a 'conversion' tool but its release date is uncertain, perhaps this Fall.  When the converter is released, there is no guarantee it will convert the entire file.   Many of us here at the forum are recommending users switch to AI2 immediately.  There are many benefits.   So, to convert now, you have to review your AI beta code and use it as a guide to create new blocks manually for AI2.  For some, this will be a lengthy process.

You may want to read this notice about the longevity of AI Classic :   http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/classic.html

Most of us have already converted our projects.   If you wait for a conversion tool, the tool may arrive too late to be useful and earliest estimates are currently early Fall, if at all.

Perhaps one of the MIT staff will post a current status?      I am betting on no tool til sometime in the Fall.  This is a difficult conversion and those working on it are trying to make it right.

Regards,
Steve

We (MIT) have not yet started on a conversion tool, although we're planning to release one before discontinuing support for App Inventor Classic.   But Steve's advice about doing hand conversion now is good advice. Even after the tool is there, it is unlikely to be a simple "push the button and forget it" operation:  people may have to do hand-modification of the tool's output.  Rather than wait for the tool, you could start doing some manual conversion now.

So did a conversion tool ever happen? Noticed my AIC apps don't translate well into Lollipop android (buttons are humongous). I need to move them into AI2 and before manually rebuilding I was just curious if this ever got anywhere.  Thanks!

@ Marty    There still is no conversion tool.  MIT has not made any additional comments on the 'tool'.    Be aware, there might never be a tool that makes a seamless conversion.  Your best option is to recode the AI Classic apps in AI2 manually -- see the previous posts.

When/if a tools becomes available, there most certainly will be an announcement.

Steve
