I believe it is possible to connect to my Genymotion emulator through a simulated usb connection if I have the Companion App installed on the emulator so that I can see my app running live. I have aiStarter running and everything is up an running correctly, however, I get the message that App Inventor does not see my device. I'm sure there is something simple I'm missing but I could really use some help.

You don't need aistarter, you just need to add a bridged adapter for the genymotion device in virtualbox, so that it exists on the same network. Should then behave just like a real device using AI2 Companion App.
