Hi, I was wondering how I could change the text to speech feature to a language like Japanese or Korean. I'd like to make an app to help people study languages, but I need it to be able to read text in Japanese/Korean/etc.

Does anyone know? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Text to speech can be selected to respond to many languages ... German?    Spanish?

The following article shows the languages the TextToSpeech component 'knows' :  http://ai2.appinventor.mit.edu/reference/components/media.html#TextToSpeech   You use the TextToSpeech component and change the language   esp for Spanish for example and the Country code ESP

Korean and Japanese are not mentioned however   you might try  kor for korean or jpn for japanese.   Otherwise, you will have to use a third party TTS engine.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks for your response. I'm not sure if it's because my Galaxy S5 was made in Korea, or because if it comes on the latest android by default, but putting "kor" under language works! Thanks

ps - Japanese seems to be "jpn"

Thank you for posting your results.   It appears MIT needs to adjust the TextToSpeech documentation .     kor   Korean   jpn  Japanese.
