Hello!
I had just recently found out about the MIT App Inventor 2 and thought of looking into it during these last days of summer... however I can't connect the emulator.
Once I finished creating my app, I go on connect-emulator but then a window pops out saying to run the aiStarter. Using a Mac I thought that should have worked automatically in the background... anyways I went on AppInventro commands etc. and double clicked on aiStarter but then this comes out on the Terminal view:

Last login: Tue Dec  8 15:27:18 on console
/Applications/AppInventor/commands-for-Appinventor/aiStarter ; exit;
You have new mail.
host-003:~ antoniacalvi$ /Applications/AppInventor/commands-for-Appinventor/aiStarter ; exit;
Error loading Python lib '/var/folders/nR/nR3X1HOOHpqBw9yZpdE9k++++TI/-Tmp-//_MEIEC3Lp7/Python': dlopen(/var/folders/nR/nR3X1HOOHpqBw9yZpdE9k++++TI/-Tmp-//_MEIEC3Lp7/Python, 10): no suitable image found.  Did find:

[Processo completato]

I have no idea what that means, and when I try to connect the emulator it still doesn't work. Even by running the test it results that the aiStarter is not running.
I could use some help!

Thanks!!

Ditto. I just installed the Mac installer and the when I go to run the app and connect to the emulator, I get run the aiStarter message. But there IS NO AiStarter on my machine (as if it was never installed). Spotlight search has no results for aistarter. Could use some help, thanks!

I assume both of you installed from the instructions here:   http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/mac.html   ?

Did you get through the firs eight steps?

Did you get through step 3 of these additional instructions?

Help with ai Starter is here:  http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/aistarter-help.html  ... Tony, you said the Spotlight could not find aiStarter on your Mac.  Did you use the Finder to go to /Applications/AppInventor/commands-for-App, and double click on aiStarter  ?

Do either of you use AVG, Eset or AVAST virus checkers?  There have been issues with them on Windows systems where going into their Advanced Link settings and allowing AI2 fixed their issues.   I am not sure your Mac issues are similar but worth mentioning.

One of you is using Safari ... perhaps one of you is also using Chrome ... if so, see this note ... if you do not have the latest version of Chrome, you may have issues  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/mitappinventortest/f9bBBMJrMAI

Try the ai tester here again. App Inventor 2 Connection Test.   What results do you get?

Have either of you tried WIFI or USB?   If so, with what results?

I am suggesting that both of you try to re-install.    It appears something happened with your original installation.   You may have missed a step, a program running in the background may have interfered with the install etc.

On the Mac

Perform these steps in order:

  1. Logout, or reboot your computer. (Important!)
  2. Download the new Mac installer package
  3. Install the new software you just downloaded. Do not change the installation directory from the default that the installer picks.

I'm about out of suggestions.   Try reinstalling, a different browser of check if your virus checker is one of the ones some users have issues with.   Also, do either of you have ad blockers ...these too interfere with AI2.

Regards,
Steve

Apologies for the late reply, looks like the problem originates from installing version 1.1 which is on the homepage. It doesn't direct you to the latest version, which I found here (http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/update-setup-software.html). This resolved the issue of no aistarter command being found. Thanks guys!!!

Glad you got this sorted out Tony.    Iwill request that the problem with the bad Mac install link be fixed.

But please, tell me where you downloaded 1.1?    Where did you get the wrong link?

Thanks.

Hi Steve,
I have 20 PCs in my lab and AI2 runs happily on several of them.  However a few are getting the attached error.  I have no idea why some are not working and others are?  I have done the reset connection/hard reset but no luck.  I am noticing that the ones not working are not asking me to update the emulator software...
Thanks,

Here are a few things to check immediately.
You are using Chrome on a PC from the image.  Are you aware of the recent issues with Chrome  (see here:    https://groups.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/mitappinventortest/f9bBBMJrMAI  ).    Is it possible the bad PCs are running a different browser or are running Chrome Version 36.0.1985.143 m.    If so, update Chrome immediately on those PCs and let us know what happens please.  That might be a silver bullet.  Try it.

Is it possible the bad PC have a different version of Companion / Starter?    Was the same software installed to all the PCs at the same time?  And using these instructions  http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/setup-emulator.html#
and did you get through all the steps without issue?

Do the bad PCs fail the connection test here:   App Inventor 2 Connection Test.   ?

Here is help with aiStarter:

Help with aiStarter

Here is help with

Connecting to the emulator (Windows or Mac)

if you have not already found it.

Are some PCs different versions of Windows, with different memory capability?  This could be a hardware issue.

Provide us with a bit more info as above and we should be able to help.

Regards,
Steve
