How to make the canvas display a GIF instead of a still photo

I finished a full cop vs robber car chase game except that the background image of the canvas the sprites are running on will not run a GIF as in it just uses the fist still image of the GIF. If there is a was to have sprites be on a animated canvas or sprites on top of video this would be very helpful.

It is not possible to use an animaties gif directly. What you can do, is to make a simulation by using a clock. At each clock tick you show the next image.
Search around in this forum and elsewhere on the web and you will find several examples.
