"Out of date" warning for me as well. Using MS Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 and a public library WiFi.

The Emulator is displayed but stalls when "waiting for blocks." Is connection speed the cause? I only have infrequent limited access to internet via WiFi. Last week the Emulator was functioning; when I updated MS Security Essentials, aiStarter went away. Would getting a ChromeBook enable using Emulator?

Can you try another emulator ? or Companion App on your device?

Look in the FAQ for alternatives (see below)

If you haven't done it already....

It might be the case that antivirus software is breaking the downloaded APK. Try temporarily disabling any AV or web monitoring software and rerun the update process. Don't forget to turn the AV back on after the process finishes so that you are not vulnerable.

If this still doesn't work, we'd like to understand how the file might be getting corrupted. Please go to Help > Companion Information and click on the link there to download the APK to your computer. You can then email it to me at ewpatton (at) mit (dot) edu and we can inspect it for corruption.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Evan

I get the Emulator home page, Taifun-

on a public WiFi, but the Emulator stalls here. I will Go to the troubleshooting page.

Neither of the two FAQ sections listed "Emulator" "Emulator Alternatives" or "Alternative Emulators", Tim. The lone WiFi entry was regarding an extension. Just now thought to see if "Connectivity" is listed.

The out of date message relates to the Companion app,
which rides along in the stock AI2 emulator,
or can be gotten in the Google Play Store for use in a device.

The emulator itself is not the problem for this message.

The Companion app needs to be kept current with the
current online AI2 version at the web site.

Updating the Companion requires answering prompts
both from the AI2 web site and the Companion app.

Unfortunately, the Companion and emulator might
cover the Windows browser pane containing the AI2 prompts,
preventing you from seeing the prompts and stalling
the update procedure.

Be sure to drag the emulator windows off to the side,
to expose any AI2 prompts during the update process.

See this YouTube video I just posted to the FAQ ...
(second half of video deals with the Companion Update)
