Hi, I teach in the UK and I have had a student put a password on the emulator.

Is there any way to reset the password so that others can use it?

Thank you

I do not know.  How do you know there is a password?

What to do depends on whether this is an emulator on a specific computer in the class or whether this is part of a network distribution or whether the emulator is part of an Android sdk install  or the problem is the emulator that installs with App Inventor using aiStarter.

On a Win7 PC, the folder with the emulator associated with App Inventor is most likely here

To get a working emulator you might uninstall aiStarter and reinstall.  That should give you a clean emulator.   You might look at the emulator 'tools'   as shown in the image.  Find the reset-emulator.bat file.  Running that bat file might 'unlock' the emulator.  If it does unlock, smile, if it does not, just reinstall.  Running the bat file might mean you will also have to do a Connect > Hard Reset from the AI browser.     Unfortunately, I do not know exactly what will happen...travel here at your own peril; however if something breaks, just reinstall.  :)

Did that work?

Regards,
Steve

Hi, Thanks for the response

when the emulator starts up, the keyboard pops up and a password is required for the 'software' to open into the phone. Its just like a password on an actual phone.

The only way round it as I have found is to delete the info file under c:\app inventor\emulator folder. Then reinstall from the setup file.

I tried the reset batch file and it has not had any effect on there being a password required.

Just wondered if there were a way i could put a file in a shared folder and 'run as admin' from the user account.

:(      here is a 'cure' via StackOverfow    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8996762/remove-password-from-android-emulator    ..however, the corresponding  img file does not seem to be resident.

However, look lower in the above image ...now that I understand the issue, perhaps  unlock-emulator-keyboard.bat   ???

Regarding a shared file, take a look at this document for some clues...I bet your shared folder would work

I believe that "had reset" will reinstall the emulator image, but I'm not sure.  Try it.
