Hi,

We are a group called Hope IT in Pasadena, CA; we are faith-based group allowing underprivileged kids gain confidence and skills in IT.  App Inventor is great in that effort; thanks for all your work.  We will have our first course introducing App Inventor in June.

We are wondering how one gets around the 13 age limit to use Google mail.  You just ask the parents to setup a Google account for them?

Thanks,
--Mike

That would be an option to ask the parents to setup a Google Account. I guess you will be using the servers of MIT else you could run a local version of App Inventor. Then you can use ficticious names for the accounts.

You can download a version of App Inventor from here that is synced with the version from january.

Or you can setup your own server with the up to date sourcecode

The following is an idea one of the PowerUsers Hossein once had:
"Just a thought: Since this is a workshop and their activities will be monitored, maybe a series of accounts could be created by you (e.g. summerworkshop1, 2, 3, ....). Before session starts, log everyone in so they don't have to go through login process. "

Maybe that could be an option.

Hi There

Without will to interfere with the MIT guys, since I had to go thru this already. the best option (for me) was to set specific google accounts for each projet (without any kind of security but password). Then shared the login data with my kids projects groups. Works fine by now and everyone safe.
Hope it helps

You might use the alternative server MIT maintains that does not require a gmail log in.     Check out   code.appinventor.mit.edu   , which runs on Amazon Web Services .   It does not require an individual log using Google email credentials.  It require a pass word  called a Revisit Code  to establish an Account.  You will enter the Revisit Code to get access to Projects that you are working on.

Do not loose the Revisit Code which should appear in the open boxes the first time you visit the web page.  The code will be your only way of accessing your Projects.   The server can also be accessed using a Google Account, but you do not want to do that.

Regards,
Steve
