I installed the AppInventor Installer program on my ASUS laptop running Windows 7.  It created a folder at C://Program Files (x86)/AppInventor/commands-for-Appinventor

However, there is no aiStarter.exe file. I ran each of the exes and, while they ran what looked like Windows cmd windows, but they disappear and then nothing.  There is a file named run-emulator.bat, which runs and makes the emulator appear - but I don't know how to load my code.

Nothing that I do will connect the emulator with my AI2 project.  I read some of the forums and tried running a simple one-button project, but no luck.

I have tried various combinations of re-starts and .exe runs, but nothing works.

I am running FireFox, if that is a factor.

Any ideas?  TIA

AI Starter should install here

and you should see all those files in the folder.  Do you see the uninstall.exe file.     That did not happen Mike?

The way to start the emulator is not using these files.  The installer app should install a link to the Win start folder and from the AI2 browser, you should start your Project by   Connect > Emulator  .  That should start the emulator.  That is not working?

On some Windows computers, the required file fail to install correctly, even if the PC is set for Administrative privlidges.    Here is what you might try if  Connect > Emulator does not work.    Uninstall the software using either the uninstall.exe or from the Win Control Panel; reset your PC.  then reinstall using the advice here:

The current MIT recommendation here http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/windows.html

should look more like this:
  1. Locate the file MIT_Appinventor_Tools_2.3.0 (~80 MB) in your Downloads file or your Desktop. The location of the download on your computer depends on how your browser is configured.
  2. Open the file by right clicking on the file.  Right clicking ensures the software is installed as Admin.  When you right click, a pop up window appears.  Please follow the advice.  Be aware, on some hardware, left clicking to open the file will install it properly; however on some hardware the Admin needs to be installed by forcing Windows to use Admin.
  3. Click through the steps of the installer. Do not change the installation location.  The software currently can only be installed in the default location; attempting to install at another location might corrupt files on your computer.   Please do record the installation directory, because you might need it to check drivers later. The directory will differ depending on your version of Windows and whether or not you are logged in as an administrator.

What happens is sometimes left clicking to open the file does not work properly (as might be the case on your Asus); so please do a RIGHT click, observe the instructions in the pop up (which forces Win7 to behave as Admin).

Did any of this advice help Mike?

Merry Christmas,
Steve

Steve,

It is working. Many thanks.

I had re-installed and started everything with both left-clicks and right-clicks, but found that I hadn't installed the installer using the right-click/administrator.

Works a treat.

Merry Christmas to you too,

Michael
