Yesterday, Feb 8, 2017, suddenly my app failed to send SMS via Google Voice even though the app hasn't been changed for a long time. The app could still receive SMS sent to the Google Voice. Does anyone have the same problem ? My app has been running strong since Oct 2015. I live in the United States.

When I digged into the GitHub code for App Inventor, the error message is generated when the App Inventor cannot initialize the GVHelper.

Please help me. Thanks

Google recently changed the protocol on their Google Voice.  As a consequence, The MIT texting component no longer works with App Inventor edit: in conjunction with GV.

MIT says they are working on a possible fix but it might take a while to get the texting component to work with GV.  The fix might be impossible.

For the moment, GV Helper no longer works with App Inventor.   When, if there is a fix, there will be an announcement.

Regards,
Steve

If you are using standard text messaging (NOT Google Voice), the Texting component will work as long as you compile and install the .apk. Live Testing with either WiFi or USB yields the following error message: IO Error: Unable to create GvHelper

I removed the Google Voice app and unlinked my cell phone with Google. I reset everything. The error message still appears.

Bottom Line: For my class tomorrow night, I will have the students compile and install the app to verify texting works.
