Can App Inventor 2 work with a Chromebook? Will child need any additional apps or can it just work using the browser and will the app (coding) stored on the cloud? Child already have an android phone so emulator will  not be required? Has experience using safari and android phone. Appreciate any feedback/ suport. Thannks

Hi JS,

yes, you can use a Chromebook as long as you have an external device such as a phone or a tablet.

You can go directly to the AI2 website from the Chromebook browser or you can use the Chromebook app from the Chrome Web store at: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mit-app-inventor/pfnbdacoddlfhpcgfnfijdglhdaaheok

Have fun!

Thanks josmasflores!

My 11 year daughter has used the app inventor for Technovation last year and enjoyed the app inventor and was able to create a small app for drawing pictures with voice instruction. However she used the Mac to do this. Now she is wanting a chromebook for school and before we buy it for her we wanted to make sure that AI2 will still work. She wants to develop an app on Periodic Table for her STEM project. I, myself am technologically challenged hence the query from me. Will there be any apps that she will need to download in order to do so?

So, if I hear you correctly, we can get her a chromebook and she should be able to do what she needs to using AI2 and her android phone? correct. You don't anticipate any hurdles? Can you recommend any resouces/ support for her? Any particular brand Chromebook would you recommend?

I am not an expert in Chromebooks so I cannot recommend one, but we have used them in pilot projects and they work fine. Just download the Companion app to the phone and use the browser on the computer. Your daughter will already know all that if she participated in Technovation.
The resources page on our website has a ton of info and goodies: http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/resources.html
She's probably seen some of those during Technovation last year.

I have exclusively used a Chromebook for the past year and still use App Inventor 2.

I love the combination!
