Date functions in AI2

I am starting to develop an app which is to display the list of events for any given date and by default it should display for the current day, and also for the next 5 days, etc. Whenever it is started it should know the current date and it should pull the data accordingly from the TinyDB.

But I am not able to find any routine that will give the current date and time. Also I am not seeing any date manipulation routines as well. As these are very basic things I am wondering how people are using the AI2 tool to do these. Any help is appreciated.
