Hello,
I have the computers: 1 with windows 7, 32 bits, 2 ram and another with windows 10, 64 bit, 4 GB of ram. In both, the following problem occurs when trying to open the emulator:

1. emulator.exe has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working properly. Windos will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Error: The process "emulator.exe" could not be found.
Problem stopping emulator: status 128

Connection failure
App Inventor is unable to connect to the Android emulator. Please see this web page for help in dealing with this issue.

Sorry!
Application Google services framework (in process com.google.process.gapps) is not responding.

By clicking wait:

2. Opens the companion window check. OK
Version 2.11ai2

When you try to update it appears:

Unable to send update to device/emulator

Sorry! Activity MIT AI2 Companion (in application MIT AI2 Companion) is not responding. Clico Wait

The emulator hangs on the screen: running the emulator, waiting to get blocks... version 2.11ai2

3. Procedures performed

a. Uninstalling and installing mitAppinventor 2.3.0
b. Disabling the firewall
c. Uninstall antivirus
d. Running the appinventor in google chrome and firefox
e. running the appinventor as administrator

All unsuccessful procedures

The test app has only one screen with the background color

I have done a lot of research on this problem and I have not found any solution yet. Thanks for any help.

In the meantime, before the official fix can reach you,
have you tried installing another free emulator like GenyMotion
of the Chrome addon (see the Companion and Emulator section of FAQ)
along with the new Companion and whatever aistarter.exe you have?

The alternative emulator would have to be started separately,
along with its Companion app, then you would connect to
it from AI2 using the Connect->USB option (no USB core needed, it's virtual.)

Let us know if this works for you?

Hi Abraham,

We are having the same issue as Rafael.  Is there an official fix to this problem?  Can we get a hold of the updated emulator file so we don't run into an update needed?

Your help is greatly appreciated.  We are hoping to resolve the issue asap as we will be working with our 8th graders tomorrow and want the emulator to be working properly.

Thanks,
Jen

@Jennifer,

In case @Evan can't get to you in time,
here is the version that the Power Users tested successfully for Evan.

I can't vouch for it being the latest,
but it DID work for the Power User testers.

Hi all,

tl;dr: Please download the Windows/Mac setup tools from this Dropbox folder, install, and test them. Please let me know what works or doesn’t work.

For those of you who aren’t on the dev list, we have a problem where older companions crash trying to update to the new companion in the emulator. The emulator only allows 8 MB per process and the update process happens entirely in memory, resulting in an OutOfMemoryException. To mitigate this issue, I’ve repackaged the current setup tools with a build of companion 2.45. This build contains an additional modification that writes the files to disk rather than keeping them in memory to reduce the chances we’ll run into this error in the future (i.e., when we have to release version 2.46). I also took the liberty to update the icons to reflect our new branding.

Note that the setup tools were packaged on Windows 10 and Mac OS X 10.12. There may be inconsistencies on older versions of those operating systems. If you have access to a machine with an older OS, please test there as well.

Cheers,
Evan

Hi all,

An important point I forgot to mention in the previous email: If you are upgrading your setup tools on your machine, you will need to use the Connect > Hard Reset menu item in App Inventor to get the updated companion image. Otherwise, you will continue to use the old, not working version.

Regards,
Evan

On a parallel track, it would be prudent to try some other emulator(s)
with the new Companion, like GenyMotion or ArcWelder, available at
the Companion and Emulator section of FAQ
