Hi everyone!
I'm just getting started with App Inventor, and I was wondering if there is a way to run the android emulator on my Chromebook, as it says I need to run one if I want to test my app without an android device. Does anyone have any tips? If it helps, I also have an iPhone that I could use, potentially.
Thanks!
Phoebe

Unfortunately, I believe this Forum discussion is still relevant  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/mitappinventortest/LSq6SL7V5y8/wIA_97cVAgAJ;context-place=category-topic/mitappinventortest/-58bjHr7oiY Phoebe.

An emulator does not work with a Chromebook, but Companion will.

iPhone... perhaps by early next year it might be possible to use App Inventor with one of those gadgets.

Regards,
Steve

Hi Phoebe,

Newer Chromebooks have the ability to run Android applications directly. When this functionality is enabled, you can install the MIT App Inventor companion onto your Chromebook via the Google Play store and run it just like any other app on your Chromebook. You need to connect using the "AI Companion" option in the Connect menu and then paste the 6 character code into the app running on your Chromebook.

The complete list of supported Chromebooks supporting this feature is here: https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/chrome-os-systems-supporting-android-apps
Instructions for school IT for managing Android app installation on Chromebooks is available here: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/7131624?hl=en

Regards,
Evan
