You don't often get email from outrea...@iisc.ac.in. Learn why this is important |
Dear Colleague,
I hope my email finds you doing well. I am writing to you on behalf of the Dean, EECS, IISc Bangalore. EECS Division consists of 4 different departments focusing on a large number of research areas such as Micro/Nanoelectronics, SP/Comm, AI, Neuromorphic, Power Electronics, Robotics, IoT, Quantum Computing/Communication/Sensing/Photonics, Deep Learning, Theoretical Computer Science, Computer Systems & Software, Intelligent Systems, Computational Electromagnetics, Virtual Reality, Cyber-Physical Systems, 5G/6G Communication, etc.
The purpose of this personal note is to seek your help to connect to the final and pre-final year students and immediate graduates of your institute from departments/programs related to ECE/EE/CS. We are embarking on several new programs in IISc, which require us to boost our Ph.D. intake significantly. Studies have indicated that students often do not get first-hand exposure to opportunities in India. This leads to many leaving India to search for Ph.D. opportunities elsewhere. In addition, students are often unaware of the opportunities post-Ph.D. Besides, there are also several misconceptions about Ph.D. We wish to change this by directly engaging with students. In this direction, we want to host a session on Oct. 27th (details will be shared with students who register) in which we wish to engage with students across the country and walk them through (1) Global opportunities, in general, post-Ph.D. in India, (2) Why one should do Ph.D., (3) Who should peruse Ph.D., and in the end (4) Ph.D. opportunities in EECS (ECE/EE/CS), IISc Bangalore. As we gather experience, we will offer more such sessions in the future.
Through this exercise, we also wish to reach out to economically/socially underprivileged students. This will help us to understand their apprehensions, if any, towards Ph.D. and how we can address this to encourage every talented student to embark on a Ph.D. journey, independent of their societal/economic background. We will also discuss the private fellowships (over and above the Ph.D. stipend) available in EECS IISc, for such students.
We hope you will agree that we are embarking on a challenging task, which will be difficult without your help. Keeping this in mind, may we seek your support to help us connect with your students by forwarding/sharing this email with your immediate graduates and students in the final/pre-final years of your B-Tech/Dual-Degree/M-Tech programs under ECE/EE/CS areas. It would be helpful if your students could fill out this google form before Oct. 21st to register for the online event (2 Hrs) on Oct. 27th: https://forms.gle/8VX3vJV24AY7D39g8
I appreciate any help you can provide. We look forward to meeting/interacting with your students. If you have any suggestions, please reply to this email.
Best regards
---
