Bridge Constructor is a series of physics-based simulation-puzzle video games developed by ClockStone and published by Headup Games. While themes and elements change across the series, each game is based on planning out a bridge across a river or ravine using a number of parts, limited by the geometry of the space and the total cost of the parts. The goal for each scenario is to make sure that one or more vehicles driving across the bridge can reach the other side safely.

The second Bridge Constructor game, eponymous to the series, was released for Microsoft Windows on 1 December 2011.[2] While it was generally successful in Europe and topped the app charts there, it didn't really catch on in North America until after a Reddit post by a player of the game within the "GamePhysics" subforum in March 2014. The post showed a GIF-image of a truck just making it across a bridge as it was collapsing underneath it. This created a large interest in the title, resulting it being the top paid iOS within 10 days of the image's posting. Headup Games took initiative to offer sales on the game and cross-promote the other titles in the series. With the boost in North America, the game saw over 27 million free and paid downloads, and a "good seven-digit figure" in paid sales by March 2014, according to Gregor Ebert of Headup Games.[3]

*As an example, after you build your bridge, you can send a pair of cars over it, followed by a pair of trucks. The bridge will show percent of loading, but nothing beyond that. If the bridge deforms but doesn't collapse, you still "win" that level. The game does track how much the bridge costs to build (overbuilding will cost more), but so far haven't hit any financial limits after a few bridges. You do have to watch not to make the bridge so overbuilt that it's too heavy...that will work against you in terms of capacity. Camera angle seems to be limited to just a side view, though. I'd hoped for something that would allow me to view from various angles and to have more choices in how much load I could put onto the bridge. Game has potential, but feel it's just a beginning to what could be a much more comprehensive game.

With normal Bridge Constructor, you have a set number of funds on each level to play with and have to design your bridge within those constraints. They've removed that challenge here and simply just track the cost, with no set cap that you can't exceed.

Just an update for this thread. Returned to BC last night and noticed that to advance to the next island, I had to have earned 40 "badges". On way to earn a badge is by getting a bridge built under budget and within the allowed payload capacity. Other badges can be earned for sticking with a single material (such as wood). I went back and rebuilt a few of my bridges to get the required badges. So, there is a limit to expense (sort of). After realizing this the game took on a bit more depth which made it more fun. Some bridges I rebuilt multiple times just to see how cheap I could go but still work .

Bridge Constructor Playground is a physic puzzle game in which players build bridges from a few simple materials to span progressively wider gaps. The game features 32 levels in total, with each level having 5 badges to complete. Badges cover constraints such as load tests, cost restrictions, stress limits, and material constraints. Bridges are tested in a physics simulation with visible stress level indicators per piece.

The mechanics of Bridge Constructor Playground are easy to pick up and simple to learn. You decide how you want to build your bridge, construct it on the grid with the four materials, test it in the simulator, and repeat until you get the desired badge. There are a few constraints such as where you can attach pieces on the surrounding ground and the fact that the surface the vehicles drive on must be horizontal. You can also save and load bridge designs to easily test ideas. On PC the game is entirely controlled with the mouse. This mostly works fine, except that I wish you could move connection points after you place them. There were quite a few times I created a tower with many cables from the top only to realize I need the tower to be shorter or taller and my only option was to delete the tower and all the existing cables and recreate them again.

GLaDOS will walk you through the completion off this stage, but in case you missed it you can see a solution below. Half the level is already complete from the start. Create two more bridges in the top half of the level, copying the construction of the existing bridges to ensure their quality.

In Bridge Constructor Playground, you take control of an engineer who is in charge of rebuilding bridges after an earthquake or some natural disaster destroys all of the bridges. Like most mobile games, there is essentially no story to Bridge Constructor Playground. You essentially get one paragraph of backstory and that is it.

In Bridge Constructor Playground, you are tasked with creating bridges in 32 different levels. To build the bridges you are given four materials (wood, steel, cables, and concrete). Each level has five challenges which are as follows:

Tackle each level without constraints and freely build your bridges to move on to the next level. If you want to enter the next island however you have to win a certain number of badges that can be earned in the levels. The badges belong to different categories that offer different challenges: safety badges demand to stay below a certain maximum stress amount, whereas material badges require the use of only certain materials. All in all, the game offers 160 challenges to master (on four islands)!
