Hi Guys,

I just installed the last version of Mist Server 1.1  I tested the 1.0 and I see many updates.

I test Smooth, HDS stream and they work well. I have only issue on HLS stream. Here is my url : http://streamingserv:8081/live/sintel/index.m3u8 and I have this error Unsupported Media Type - The server isn't quite sure what you wanted to receive from it.

Is there any requirements for HLS output ? I see MistDTSC2TS, do I use it ?

Kind regards,
Olivier

Hey Olivier,

To prevent confusion over what the "/live/" part stands for, we've changed HLS URL's to be this format, instead:
http://<server>:<port>/hls/<streamname>/index.m3u8

The unsupported media type error *always* means that the server didn't know what you wanted - it doesn't indicate that it can't deliver what you asked for.

Hope that helps,
Jaron Viëtor

Thanks for your answer. It works now.

I just have problem when I stream smooth and hls. The movie is playing very fast and after the first fragment, the players are in buffering. I don't have the problem with HDS where the movie works well.
Do you have an idea where the problem comes from ?

I use the Git version.

Hello Olivier,

Smooth, HDS and HLS live are the only bits we're still tweaking before the proper 1.1 release - the git version will improve almost daily until they fully work, and once they do we'll release it.
You may have already tried this, but as your message is a few days old - try the latest version in the development branch. Especially the last few days some very good progress has been made in these protocols.

Regards,
Jaron

Hi Jaron,

I just updated the last dev version. Smooth works no well as HDS.
For HLS I have already a kind of lag but I am be sure you will fixed it soon.

Mist is a very interesting tool.

Kind regards
Olivier

Hello Olivier,

Great to hear it works for you now :-)
HLS will always be slightly "laggy" because it needs to create fragments of 10+ seconds each, which means it needs some information about the surrounding data, and thus incurs delays.
You may want to try putting the "buffer time" (AKA "DVR") setting at 30000 (meaning 30 seconds) or more for best results with HLS. More data in the buffer means it can more easily create these groups of 10 seconds worth of data.

Regards,
Jaron

Hi Jaron,

I'm currently looking where I can put the buffer time.
I use the last development version from Git.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Olivier,

Assuming your stream is live, the buffer time should be available as an option in the stream settings.
If your stream is not live but VoD, buffer time is irrelevant (since the HDD is used as an "infinite" buffer of sorts) so not available as an option.
Sorry if I was unclear about that. :-)

Regards.
Jaron

Hi Oliver,

When setting up a new stream through the local configuration page it is the input field that says: BUFFER TIME [MS]
Should be in the latest dev version on Git.

Bob

@Jaron : I'm using for VoD
@Bob : the buffer input disappeared when I add my local DTSC file path

NB: I'm on IRC channel with the nick : alkann

Hello Olivier,

For VoD there is no such thing as buffer time, the entire file will be used as a buffer for streaming.
